fix truss rod?

I posted this question in the bass forum and should have tried here. I have a '81 G&L L1000 and would like to know if there is a repair to loosen the truss rod. It works and will loosen but to get the neck almost straight you have to tighten the rod all the way. Is there a way to get more out of the adjustment? Thanks!

search tool is your friend. trust me it's out there. a bunch.
