Flat wounds with less pull on neck???

Hello all,

I recently acquired a 1981 Korean Squier Jazz Bass that is pretty darn cool. Black with those creme Dimarzio pups.

The truss rod works but gets MAXED out before I can get the neck straight as I would like it so I am considering strings with less pull on the neck.

Any good suggestions? String Tone and feel on the fingers aside.


I COULD replace the neck but..meh. I like the bass as is and don't want to change it.

TI's, La Bella LTF, and Dunlops. I think La Bella LTFs have the lowest pulling tension on them of those three but they feel the stiffest of the three in terms of flexibility.

The only way you're going to get less pull on the neck is by using strings with less mass or by tuning down. All else being equal, less mass = lower gauge.

The pull on the neck is the combined tension of the strings, and tension is primarily determined by gauge, not primarily by brand/string line. So, low gauges in any string product. You could use ADG strings plus a single high C, tuned to EADG, for an even lower tension set if needed.

You could add a couple washers on truss rod nut to get a little more out of it. But all the flats above are great strings. Nice looking jazz there!
