Flats for short scale Bas

Brighter than most: Chromes
The classic Flats sound: La Bella
Thumpy and luxurious: Pyramids
Growly: Fender
Mids and Woodiness: TI Flats

Good luck finding the right flat for your bass and your tone goals. There are a good number of flavors and the only way to really know is to try them. The good news is that they are easy to sell on TB if you don't like them.

I like LaBella and GHS with Fender and TI right behind.

Thanks so much for all the info and recommendations. Being that I have been using tape wound nylons and I really like the classic old school sound so far it looks like I may go La Bella.

Labella Deep Talkin' flats in short scale are my long-time preference. I like the light gauge .043-.104 set.

I got Fender stainless flats on my Washburn. Little bit bright so if you're looking for old school I'd stay away from steels.

For old shool I would absolutely go with DR Legend. High quality strings with the best feel I have ever tried. And they sound fantastic.

You should try some Chromes. But if you aren't hip to them then I would suggest some Chromes. And if those don't work for you, you can't go wrong with a fresh set of Chromes. Inexpensive, higher tension which is good for shorties and brighter tone that mellows once broken in.

Thanks, I tried some Chromes, but didn't care for the sound so then I tried some Chromes and they were too bright, so I got a set of Chromes and, guess what, they were a little too bright for me LOL!

I like the rotosound 77 monel flatwounds on a short scale bass. Nice tension, and the extra bite helps note definition.

My preference on my short scale basses (I only have short scale basses) are TI flats.

I also love Rotosound 77s but I found they did not last as long as I would want them to.
