Thank you, everyone, for your replies and responses. I received some responses from LaBella directly and as it turns out, the core of the Original 54’s are much heavier than their Balanced Sets.
While it’s a bit of a twinge for my brain to not have every detail available to me online, these details are proprietary information that allow them to have a product that stands out differently from the rest.
I think that these Original sets would be fantastic for drop tuning on this bass or longer scale instruments - but I don’t tune to C or A…
I’ve tuned my bass back to E and it really does play well - it’s really just the very fast rate of bloom and extra growl that, once I noticed, had me think that my bass was being a bit forced. If my bass had a wood neck and not this status graphite neck I would probably not have started this thread.
A luthier friend of mine recently expressed some frustrations with setup techs not being able to assess the entire instrument and what it needs, instead only working from numbers, and this is a case of the latter eclipsing the former as I had no real understanding of my instrument when I slapped these on.
I would love to have access to full tension charts for every note from drop tunings to sharp tuning for every stringset on the market, with core and wind specs, but for the 5% of bass players that actually change their strings and the 1% of those folks that would really make use of that information, it would be A LOT of work.
