If you have had your Flats on your bass for over 1 year please answer a few questions. I know Flats are great but some strings are great at first but then go down hill.

What Brand?

How are they holding up?

Has the tone changed?

Has the "Feel" changed?

I just switched strings, so this is about the ones I had prior. I had a set of Sadowsky Black Label flats in light gauge on for over a year. It took them two or three weeks to settle in, but once they did, the tone never changed again. The feel got better for the first few months as they got that sticky crud off them and built up a layer of funk, then they stayed at that level, too. I wound up with probably 800 hours of play time on them, and they sounded the same as they did after the first month.

They didn't have the sound I needed for my current project. They are a modern flat, and I needed the classic flat sound, so I switched to LaBella Jamersons. I really liked the Sadowskys, though, so I may switch back, and tell the band to deal with it.

Thanks for the reply, I thought this would be a great topic. We can get some Idea of how these strings all are after the "Honeymoon" is over. :D

What Brand?
- D'A Chromes, 40-100.

How are they holding up?
- Three and a half years and still going strong.

Has the tone changed?
- Started out fairly bright and even "clanky", but nicely mellowed now.

Has the "Feel" changed?
- Started out a bit "sticky" but silky smooth now.
