Flatwounds on Fender Mustang, any problems?

I switched the Rotosounds and TIs around from my 1966 and 2013 Mustangs and they both sound better. Hmmmm.

I'll chalk this up to certain strings just sound better on certain instruments.

My earlier comment about the E string diameter being much larger - I do realize that it is supposed to be this way, the gauges are listed on the package, I'm just wondering if anybody else has the same issue.

Logic tells me that since these have a greater difference in dia than most other sets, there will be a greater sound difference. Do you all just drop the pickup a bit or change the action. I am just trying to hear some advice from some of you who have been using these for a while. My experience with Rotosounds, Daddario, GHS, LaBellas, and Fender strings have the gauges with mostly equal steps between sizes.

I have a 1969 Mustang. I tried Chromes and didn't like them because they were too stiff. La Bella strings are somewhat better. I'll have to try TI flats. I use TI flats on all my other bass guitars.

You may find the TIs too "loose" for the short scale Mustang.

I recommend Pyramid Gold/Hofner or Optima. The latter being the lesser expensive choice.

I find TIs to be too loose for a standard 34" scale for my taste so I can't imagine them on a short scale.

D'addario Chromes medium scale works perfectly for the Stang. I use them all the time. Not too dull, and higher tension suits the short scale perctly!
