Flea and his q-tron

I waslooking at the q-tron and micro q-tron and i was wondering if icould ge tthe exact "Flea" sounds from the mirco q-tron instead of theregular q-tron? Example in sogslike 21st century ad sir psycho sexy

I actually don't think he uses a q-tron much, though i have heard people saying he does plenty of times

actually there is a rumor I have heard about the sound in sir psycho sexy. Supposedly he used an original mutron III with a dying battery... weird huh? you can get similar sounds with a q-tron and distortion, but its still not QUITE the same. In case you didnt know, the mutron III is a classic effect used on countless funk albums, and the q-tron was redesigned by the guy who made the Mutron III to sound more like his classic effect.

I have no idea what flea uses anymore, but its not neccessarily a q-tron...

I do know that for the song falling into grace he used a combination of the bassballs, MXR auto Q, and the Boss envelope filter. In an interview he actually said they had all three out, and he doesnt remember which were on at the time.

anyways, I think a q-tron would get you the sounds you are looking for, I have one and it works great for me, but there are other great filters out there. I cant remember them right now, but I'll let you know as I do

How about I restate the question for him. Can ElectroStompbox get the same sounds out of a Micro Q-Tron that Flea gets out of regular Q-Tron? Despite the lack of bells and whistles, and different power requirements.

All other things constant of course.

I tried a Q-tron, and really didn't like it. I couldn't get that lovely thick envelope filter sound that Flea has on Sir Psycho Sexy. It was possible that it was the bass/amp I was using, but it just didn't sound right.

Which is odd because Flea uses/used one.

I use the MXR Auto Q for Higher Ground (once the drums and Guitar kick in, not the intro or the chorus) and it sounds great. Not exact, but still very cool.

I had a Q Tron in the past and just couldn't duplicate his sound exactly. Maybe it is an Ampeg vs. GK thing.

...there is no autowah in that song... he uses a wah for a little bit, but its for like 4 seconds at a time

unless you're just saying you threw that in cause you thought it would sound cooler, then disregard my comment

When FunkyMonkCP and I had been researching Flea's rig and effects, he showed me this recent photo of Flea's board:

FunkyMonk has posted it before in this forum, but I thought I'd show everyone again. Last I checked, that's still his current board.
