Flea Tone

A friend of mine is asking how he can get flea tone (Stadium Arcadium) out of his MIA Deluxe Jazz. He want to switch preamp, pups and strings if necessary. He got BADASS bridge says it helps with sustain. He stills has his stock bridge so if the Badass needs replacement for the tone he will do it.

Alder Body & Rosewood Fretboard

any suggestions ???

Thanks TB'ers

Very low action ('till it buzzes and sizzles) and dig in hard when you play. It's sort of a controlled buzzing if that makes any sense. I know he used flatwounds on the songs with the Jazz but I wouldn't go changing preamps and pickups. Get a Stingray, Modulus Flea Signature or even an OLP if you want more of the classic Flea tone.

If you want Flea sound,

1) You better start plucking hard, really hard. Take a look at BP.tv in the artist section. That's the way he plucks, REAL HARD, not just for the video but in real life.

2) Flea's Jazz bass is all original.

To have the exact same you should buy:

GHS flatwound too
Fender 60's custom shop pickups
Fender vintage bass bridge

You also need a modulus FLea bass with a Lane Poor pickup if you want a stadium arcadium. But he only use it in the Slap section OVER the fender bassline. (Listen to the CD included with the book) So know oyu know you should practice a lot cause you'll have to play 2 basses at the same time in the Slap section :bassist::)

take Care
