Flea used Spectors?

Funny because I always said to myself that on Mother's Milk, that CANNOT be a Stingray. Especially on Johnny Kicked a Hole in the Sky. One of the baddest basslines he ever recorded.

Makes me wonder, if he used all these other basses for recording (and even live as evident by the videos), why is "Flea" almost always synnonymous with a Stingray?

Back in the day, we were always wondering how he got that smooth guitar tone (especially in the intro). The guitar player I used to play with couldn't pull it off with his American Standard Strat so we concluded he must indeed have been using a Jaguar. I take it he really used a Strat and my guitar player sucked at tone shaping?

i believe the intro is played with a capo (even though he isnt in the vid) while the rest of the song is played as normal. dunno if that would change the tone that much though

Not entirely sure what guitar he used to record the song with, but theres a version of the music video with them commenting them, and he said he'd never played that kind of guitar in his life, and that it just looked good for the vid. I think the smooth tone comes from playing with his fingers, my guitarist does a pretty good job with his strat.

Or how John never used a Jag on the album? (UTB video)

Well he definitely had a Jag with him during the BSSM recordings. If you watch the Funky Monks video, you can see him loading it into the back of his pickup truck (he had no case for it!) when they were leaving the mansion.

I'm not saying he used it on that particular song, but there sure was one around.
