Double Bass flight trunks

Not sure if this is the right place but as the airlines get more reluctant to lift more than 32 kgms including bass in many countries the Gage etc cases are just too heavy .

has anyone checked these for example?? About 16kgms

4k+ for a case? Ouch. How much does the instrument have to be worth to justify that... Mine certainly doesn't.

What's it matter what the bass is worth? If The case will get the bass there without damage, and save you headaches and overweight charges, then maybe $4k isn't so much to pay. There's a company in Macedonia or somewhere like that which makes very light (and beautiful) CF cello and bass trunks which are fairly popular in Germany, but I don't think they're cheaper. Sorry, I haven't been able to find them online. Anyone know?

My concern is getting it light enough for those baggage monkeys to throw it.
My bass is around 20lbs so the case would need to come under 30 for it to work.

I gotta say, it's not just the weight. The coupla times I've flown with a case they don't even weigh it. It's either no problem or they take one look and say that it's going air freight cause it's overSIZE.

My other concern is stability inside the case. when I flew out of Newark I got to sit in the terminal and watch my bass (in the Gage case) sit in a baggage cart on its head (scroll at the bottom, end pin at the top) in the summer sun for about 20 minutes till I could find somebody willing to communicate to the loading crew to turn it and move the cart into teh shade....

Yes, the Accord is the one I was thinking of. Also, it shouldn't matter if the case is upside down. the first rule of packing delicate objects is that they must be tightly secured inside whatever container is chosen. I have heard of basses being damaged even though the trunk was not. This is avoidable.
