Ha! This is the best one. Strange how different a Fodera looks when you don't know it's a Fodera.

In conversations I have had with a certain Papal member of the Fodera team, he suggested that NYC Empires may in fact be manufactured, in part, by a third party. F-clef basses have been mentioned in this discussion. Bottomwave, a Japanese company, looks as if it shares these same parts as well. As you can see from these pics, the Empire NYC and F-clef bass look very similar. The 4 string Empire in the pic in post #20 looks a whole lot like this F-clef including the top mount electronics and tuners.
So this very well may be a real Fodera NYC Empire - F-clef thingy, collaboration, hybid, half-breed.

I hope that Fodera will make a few NYC 4 strings in future! That could be nice..
That 4 string NYC is back on Ebay. It's a shame that he can't sell it for $2000. Maybe if it wasn't such a hideous color? I'm really disappointed in the look of some of the basses they're building lately. My friend called Fodera and was told they made three 4 stringers, and this one is real. I own a Monarch, and was at the shop two years ago when Joey said they would be making 4 string NYCs soon. And again last year.It just took a while?? I got tired of waiting and went "down the block" to that other guy in Brooklyn, Sadowsky. I bought a Metro Hybrid, but have since upgraded to an NYC from Roger. It's being built as we speak. I love my Monarch and will never part with it, but for that vintage "Fender" sound I grew up on, nobody comes close to Sadowsky.
I'll stand by my original statement, Fodera or not. The close-up of the back of the bass in the e-bay listing is the worst paint job I've ever seen. The red stripe doesn't even follow the contour of the body, and almost slops over the neck. No wait, not my 12 year old, my 8 year old.

FWIW, I've never really liked any Fodera I've seen, I just thought it was funny that I have never, ever, seen someone post anything negative about them, but as soon as this "fake" appeared, everybody thinks it looks like trash. Emperor's new clothes? You be the judge.

I just bought this on the bay and was wondering about the authenticity of the bass since I owned 4 Fodera NYC's in the past and always the serial number was at the back of the headstock, and this one does not have it. Any way, I send an email with pics to Fodera and he show the pics to Vinny and Joey and they confirm the authenticity. This bass has the serial # under the bridge. Look at it:

By the information that I received officialy by Fodera the NYC models were shape in Japan and ensemble in USA. It would be nice if they will manufacturing they again. The Attelier basses look very similar to the Fodera NYC models, check them out.
They're not going to make them again. The Standards are essentially their replacement, but a couple notches up. Not really the same concept.
Thank goodness. Fodera's foray into the high end Geddy Lee bass wilderness was somewhat disturbing to this casual observer, especially that hideous headstock.
