Following users

When I click on a user name there's an option to Follow, but I'm not sure what it does, because when I post to or follow a discussion I get alerted to updates, but I am not seeing any visible indication when a person I've followed has posted.

Am I looking in the wrong place to see those kinds of updates? Or does Following a user do nothing? Or does it do something different from what I expected?

I’d like to know the answer to this as well… longtime member of TB, I follow numerous people here but I have never received a single notification of any kind regarding the activity of anyone I follow. Kinda just gave up on it after a while…
