Footswitch Mod

I have a nemesis rs400 that came with a footswitch for mute and bypass enhance. I like and use every time I use the head. However I would like to be able to unplug the cable so unread of winding it up around the pedal I can have bit more freedom. This entails soldering a jack and I need to know what wire to where?

If any one who knows what I'm blabbering about please help.

Grab a multimeter and set it to continuity testing. Touching the leads together should produce a beep or indication on-screen. Determine if you need a 2 or 3 conductor Jack by looking at the plug. If it's a 3 conductor, you'll have the tip, a ring, then the sleeve. If it's 2 conductors, you'll have only the plug tip and sleeve. (Think stereo plug vs mono). At this point, I cut the wire with enough lead in the housing to solder to your new Jack.
now to the multimeter: follow the internal wiring out of the loose cable until you reach exposed wire. Strip them back a bit. Touch one multimeter lead to the exposed cable and the other lead to the tip of the plug. If it tones, thats the tip. If not, continue to the ring of the plug, then sleeve. One of them will form a complete circuit down the length of cable. Note which is which, repeat the process for he other cables. Now you should know which color cable goes to each connector.

When soldering leads to your new jack, just match the contacts that you noted. I've done this a number of times. It works quite well. Good luck!

That's a good idea, Dave. It will ensure longevity and functionality of your pedal. I despise permanently attached line/signal cords on any device. With a detachable cable on your pedal you can use a connecting cable of (almost) infinite length. If you run the cable over with a 500-pound amp rack you just grab a new 1/4" instrument cable. If the cable's permanently attached and you damage it...you have no footswitch.

is the the kind of jack i need the other end of the cable has 2 black stripes so stereo?

No, you want a stereo jack. it will have 3 of those tabs on it. One for the tip, one for the middle bit(sorry the name escapes me) and one for the sleeve.

with just having two switches like you have they will share the ground(sleeve) and then one switch goes to the tip and one goes the the middle part depending on what changes what on the amp.
