Which one would you keep if you had to chose one.

I think if I had to chose it would depend if I am playing in a band or not. If I am playing then I would have to keep the 4001 Ric. If not I have no Idea...the P bass maybe?

I'd keep the stingray 5 hands down. It covers all my bases. With a little turn of the EQ knob I can get just about anything I want. I love my other basses, but they're just gravy. The SR5 is the meat and potatos.

A trick question? Why do you think I have so many? Why do you have so many? If I could only keep one of your list, I'd say ...............damn. I was right it is a trick question, you have a GREAT selection there. I say tell 'em to go pound sand and keep all of them beauties!

Yeah IIRC it is a 1973 Ric. I have not had the pleasure of comparing it with a later model 4001 or 4003. However I did swap the original bridge for the Hipshot replacement bridge which increased the sustain and helped get more punch out of the E string. I also added a push/pull pot so that I can toggle between the 0.0047 capacitor in the circuit, similar to what is available on the new 4003 models.


Oh and thanks for all the compliments guys. I think my collection is relatively humble, nothing really exotic or "boutique" I think the most expensive one was the Stingray which I custom ordered from EB and it came in well under $1700 CAD, I did change the pickup cover and pickgaurd from black and white to a matching parchment colour instead. I would love to add a 70's p bass with a maple neck though. But they seem to be a little harder to find and overpriced.

My three basses:

~Fender MIJ '75 Reissue Franken-Jazz
~MTD 635-24
~Carvin LB75 Fretless

The Carvin would be the first to go. Not that it isn't a great bass, but I just think if I could only have one bass I would rather have a fretted over a fretless. Trimming down to one would be very, very difficult for me. My MIJ '75 RI Franken-Jazz is very special to me. It is like my child. But on the other hand, you have my MTD 635, a truly amazing instrument made by the master himself. I'm not sure I could make that choice, but if someone was pointing a gun to my head, I would probably get rid of the MTD leaving my beloved jazz bass to live out my life with.

The Ric. It's the best out of all of those for anything you would want to do (versatile) and it's also the most valuable moneywise. Close second would be the Stingray.
