Ford Taurus

I'm looking for a used ford taurus se, but I want bucketseats, so that the gearshift isn't on the wheel, but to my right.

I've only seen one SE with this. I've seen a lot of SES's, which is a step up from it, with the gearshift to the drivers right and not on the wheel. Do any of you have any information on this? Is it just a option that some people bought when the car was new, or what?

Huh? new cars? Im looking for a used one. But yeah, you got the gear knob thing right.

And just for further clarification. I'm 16. I don't know what i 'm talking about, sorry if anything i say sounds dumb.

Haven't seen too many Tauruses (or it's sister car, the Mercury Sable) with console shift and bucket seats, most were bench seat and column shift.

The 3.0 OHV (commonly referred to as the "Vulcan") is imo the best engine offered for the Taurus. Avoid the 3.8 like the plague.

Depending where you live and how much road salt gets dumped on the roads, a '99 on up Taurus/Sable would be ok.

My buddy owns a 95 Taurus GL and a 00 SVT Contour. He's had to replace the fuel pumps on both of them. Also he's replaced every part of the cooling system on the Taurus, and it still overheats on occasion.

I'd say go with a Camry or Corolla. The engines are bullet proof, and they get great gas milage. I have a 1990 Celica which shares the same engine and many other parts with the Camry, and it runs and still looks nice.

Also they have the shifter on the floor and the front seats aren't bench style.

That 3.0 is made be Yamaha right? Decent engine, Mike is right big times about 3.8. I've dealt with those, how I did not kill myself I will never know.

Why Taurus btw? It really is not that good of a car…

The 3.0 is great and stands up to a lot of punishment! Not to forget that it's got decent power and comparable gas mileage. My family has owned 3 of them (one of them being my '96 Sable) and would recommend one in a heartbeat. They do have transmission issues but can be prevented if you change the fluid before 100k.

But, as Mike mentioned above, stay far, far away from the 3.8.

The SHO engine was made by Yamaha.

The 3.0 I like is a Ford engine that has been around since the mid 80's. Cast iron block and heads, and old fashioned pushrod driven overhead valves. The engine is damn near bulletproof.

You can ID the engine by the eighth digit in the VIN #, it will be a "U" (or a "2" if it's a flex-fuel car).
