I grew up in the area. It sucks. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. In the words of Bill Murry, "You can take the girl out of Fresno, but you can't take Fresno out of the girl".

not to trash on fresno, but i second maki in only having driven through or past it. (it is close to king/sequoia parks, and not far from winter snow i dont think...).
as for those cities with a smaller scene, just be patient. i just hate to say youre not in prime music talent terretory. sorry. keep at it buddy.

Go to Fresno High School and marvel at the new swimming pool that is nearly complete. My company built that pool. 
If I heard correctly, Fresno has recently achieved the coveted status of being the "Drunkest City in California". I can only assume that the title was given out before you became a citizen.

yep been here a whole entire week
Fresno is the point where NorCal and SoCal meet, cancelling each other out and leaving nothing behind but an empty void ...
