The sound is like thousands of piezo equipped angels sliding down a magic water slide. Or maybe that's just the meds talking.
A few years back I asked Rick if he'd make one for me. Intrigued, he put together this one of a kind bass. Its based on the existing Ren 5 string neck and body so its 35" scale and reflects those dimensions.
It doesn't have an adjustable bridge so exact intonation across octaves in high registers has to be tweaked. Cant say its too noticeable, but then again, its an eight string FRETLESS so there's a lot going on. Sounds like a fretless through an octaver but with a world of subtle overtones and harmonics a box can never recreate.
It's strung with Thomastik nylon core strings. Ee, Aa, Dd, GG (g string is paired not octave). The paired g's are based on the lack of a high nylon core "g". I once ran a labella nylon high g from a piccolo bass. Sounded cool but i liked the paired g sound better.
Since it a Turner it doesn't weigh much. It does have a bit of neck dive from all those light weight turners. Its incredibly clean. A minor scratch or two--nothing apparent.
