What Ibanez do you have? I like a lot of them as well especially the GWB’s
I have the Ashula so technically it’s a 1/2 fretless but I’m obsessed with with it. (Definitely not for everyone though haha).

I’m thinking about the Fender American professional ll jazz fretless. But I noticed the prices are all over the place. Some of that may be due to used condition, etc. and some of them have different fingerboards. I really don’t know much about the electric bass and I’m wondering about different necks, fingerboards and electronics.. I just have a feeling that an Ebony in the Rosewood are both good, but I know nothing about Pau Ferro?I've been thinking about a G&L Tribute Kiloton fretless ($699 US), but if I was on your budget I'd probably get a Fender American Professional II Jazz fretless in 3 tone sunburst ($1799 US). I hope you enjoy whatever you end up getting.
I used to own a fretless American professional jazz bass. I thought it was better than the Tony Franklin I had. My Tony Franklin had a weak sounding g string and had a dead note.I was able to snag a used BFR Stingray Fretless in your price range and it makes we wish I was a better bassist every time I pick it up.
I certainly do not miss the Fender Franklin nor Ibanez fretless basses I used to own.
Next time you see a Pedulla Buzz (regardless of the number of strings) for less than $2k, give me a shout. I'll even factor in the price of a new pair of jeans because the ones I'm wearing when I find one will have the back pocket ripped off from me grabbing my wallet so fast![]()
I wouldn't take a fretless without piezo pickup system. It is the main thing IMO what makes it sound special. My choice was even further, piezo+optics. Wilcox Saber.
