Fretless recommendation

Hey guys.
I recently decided that I need a fretless bass. The concept really freaks me, but for the tone I like, I don't think there is any fretted bass. Nearest I got was a warwick thumb. But it was ugly and uncomfortable for me. I wouldn't want that in fretless.

Obviously, I like mwah. I also like tonal options. My favorite bass currently is a g&l l2000.
Though, a wide tonal spectrum is not essential.

I like thinner necks. 17-18 is better than 19 for me. Asymmetrical neck also, is a bliss.

I will probably buy this used, and have around 1500 to spend. So custom is not an option for me.

From what I've listened to, I really like the zon sound. Carvin BB looks good too.

What options do I have, what do you recommend?
Would a cirrus be a good option? I'm really liking them.

mark, I've never thought of sterling. so thanks for that. I would think it'd be similar to l2k.
why not a fretless l2k? well, because it lacks any mid control, and I would really like that in a fretless.

yep fretless jazz is a classic I guess. may be I should just get one of those new squiers for a first fretless eh?

You know, I picked up a Squier VM fretless and it's a great little bass. Set up right, I have no trouble alternating it with my pre CBS Fenders or my active V Plus J. I did change the pu's for Fender Vintage pu's, but in hind sight the difference in sound, although noticable, isn't that big a deal.

+1. I've played the VM and I was really pretty impressed by the tone & playability. That being said, my personal fretless is a 5-string Zon, and I absolutely love it. If you've got the $1500 to spend, try to find a used one. My other recommendation would be to play a Pedulla - they've got mwah to spare.
