Fretless string choices?

Any of the strings that are for sale in my signature are great for fretless! But if you're not into pressurewounds or tapes, use whatever you feel works best for your style of playing and the music you're playing.

I recently got an extremely nice fretless Warwick, I’m coming up on 4 years of playing and Ive played exclusively roundwounds the entire time, this bass however I got used and it has flats, I would love to put rounds on it so I can get the sound/feel I’m looking for (mainly a metal/rock player) but I’m really scared of ripping up the fretboard more than it already is after 16 years of playing from the last owner, what’s my best move here?View attachment 5363021

Use the strings you like. Rounds vs. Flats vs. Tapes on a fretless bass, is a perennial argument around here. Playing technique has as much - if not more - effect on fingerboard wear, as your choice of strings does. If your fretless bass is set up correctly, it takes very little pressure to "fret" a note. If you have to mash the string into the fingerboard, fix your setup. Playing my 3 fretless basses - 2 with flats, one with Roto 88 Tapes - is practically effortless, because I set them up that way... So, if you have rounds you like? Use them. Personally, I only have rounds on one of my 27 basses; TI Jazz Rounds, only because it sounds like with every other string I've ever put on it. It wouldn't be wearing them, otherwise - nice though they are. I use flats and tapes for 2 reasons; 1) that's what I've played since I learned to play - in 1968, and I like them; and 2) I have lots of frostbite and other nerve damage in my hands and fingers. Playing rounds for more than a couple of minutes, is very painful. I can tolerate the TIJR's because they feel almost like flats, but... I can't play them for as long as I'd like to. Anyhow...
Play the strings you like, on your fretless; and worry about the fingerboard on down the road...
