I'm thinking about diving deep and building an FRFR rig that can serve a bunch of purposes (amplifying my electric bass sound, but also doubling for a jazz guitar amp and acoustic duo shows as a true PA setup).
For bass, I'm only ever going for a Carol Kaye thump. 4 strings, 10 year old flatwounds, etc... a few questions:
1) what are the preamp style pedals that I should be checking out? I'd love something with a very simple tone stack and XLR out (if possible). Bonus points for reverb so I can run a guitar through it. Thoughts on Quilter Phantom Block or something beefier?
2) Can I get away with a QSC K8.2 or CP8? The weight of these smaller cabs seems really appealing to me, or am I going to suffer *significantly* with an open E string?
3) If you're running an FRFR setup, what's your current signal chain?
Thanks gang!
