I need a way to get assistance with the IRS.
I have a wage garnishment that was supposed to end a month ago. Two weeks ago I finally got a live person after being in queue for over an hour 3 different times and getting hung up on the first two.
That person and a person in the collections department both assured me that the garnishment was over, and I had a $1700 credit balance.
Spent two days trying to get a live HR person for the huge global company I work for, and when I finally reached somebody, they said they had never received an order from the IRS releasing the garnishment.
Spent another day on the phone trying to reach somebody at the IRS, and finally decided I would try again in a day or two.
Now, every time I call the IRS, I get a recording saying that they are unable to provide telephone support and that normal operations will resume as soon as possible.
My employer has garnished almost double what the original order was for and assures me that they cannot end the garnishment without an order from the IRS.
Anybody know anything I can do about this? It's starting to have a major financial impact in my family.
