FENDER USA P-BASS neck (1995) American Standard Precision / A.S.P Bass Prototype
This is a one-of-a-kind find!
It's a 20 fret neck based on the Vintage format. Butt adjustment, but with the larger diameter truss rod & 3/16 hex adjustment. 1-5/8" nut.
The frets are medium jumbo (American Standard). I used only flats on it and it has less than 12 gigs on it. So, I while cant say the neck is new, it was played very little.
The tuner holes are for your basic Shaller ~F~ Ultralite tuners with 11/16 bushing holes. That also works with vintage bushing & tuners.

This piece was made by the Fender R&D (model) shop . The neck was hand pin routed, not run on the production CNC. If you look at the pics note the tooling holes used to fasten the neck blank to the template.
The production ASP basses have the large 1/4inch factory "production" CNC tooling hole. This proto type neck was PRE-PRODUTION & run on a pin router by hand & has the 1/8 inch dowel plugging the tooling hole. It doesnt have the 1/4 inch "production" tooling hole.
On the butt of the neck you can see where it was stamped (A.S.P.BASS PROTO) This is stamped & is under the satin clear. You can also see the second tooling hole that wasn't plugged (under the word PROTO) used to fasten the butt of the neck to the pin router template.
Anyone can drill & dowel a hole claiming it to be a tooling hole, but you cant UN-DO the large factory CNC hole!
This neck was built by some of Fenders best, the R&D Model shop. This is basically a mini-custom shop, building orders for Fenders management instead of the public. The builders could be Mike Bump, or Duane Bolinger. I'm not sure if they were the R&D builders at the time. If it wasn't them, it was George Blanda. George is amazing & responsible for countless Fender designs. All the R&D guys are superb builders.
