Let's try this again. If anyone has a problem w/ this ad, send me a pm. Please don't clog up my thread with anymore BS comments.

I know I'm going to regret selling this, but I just purchased a home and really need money for renovations.

2004 Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass 5 string. I searched for one of these for a while in this condition and it's really a fantastic instrument. The bass practically plays itself. Three tone sunburst, maple fingerboard, alder body, mint guard, beautiful abalone dots. The bass has been babied it's whole life and it shows. I can't find a single mark or ding on the body. The neck is slick and fast. All original electronics, 3-band eq, very versatile and sounds amazing.

I would love to keep this instrument, but I need the money. The last one of these went for $1200 plus shipping, without the original case and not in mint condition. I'm going to ask $1100 shipped in the original case, which is also in excellent condition. Preferred payment is postal mo, but I'll take paypal. These pics aren't the best and I'll get some better ones up asap. Thanks for looking.

Post from the previous thread. Thanks, Vic.

FYI, I have a thread on these basses 'cause they discontinued them after '06. The last ones were sold in '07, and had the Fender anniversary badges on the back of the headstock since they were made in '06. The one I had originally had the same body and finish as this one, but it had the pau ferro board (and predated some of the updates this one has). I REALLY liked that bass, but sold it to get into a higher end instrument at the time. Ironically, the Fender has been replaced, permanently, and the higher end bass is now gone. :D

The very latest ones had machines that were not quite as nice as the ones on this bass, in the interest of saving headstock weight, so at least from a mechanical and functional standpoint, this bass is from the best era. It has all the updates (they switched to an 18V preamp from 9V, they shaved the neck heel, and they went to a 4+1 headstock), and doesn't have the downgraded tuners.

Also, Andy DeWitt (TB:KayCee) swears by this particular combo... alder body and maple board. While the pau ferro diff is very subtle, I do like maple better on these... at least with the alder body, and that classic sunburst look is killer. In fact, I put a tort guard on mine and I love the total package... both looks and tone.

These are really unique basses in that, while they have a great and very faithful P sound (despite the fact the A string is on the wrong segment, tho I've never noticed tonally), they do not sound like a typical PJ 'cause of that extra aggressive bridge pickup. Tons of great burpy bite and a super modern tone for slap... killer.

BTW, the bridge pickup, I believe made by Bill Lawrence, is NOT the same as the 4 string model and the supposition is that pickup deal went away which is why this bass and the RBV also went away.

Anyway, sorry for the uber-long bump, but at least IMHO, this is one of the most interesting basses out there, and I think will be sought after eventually.

For those interested, here's my thread on this whole thing... kind of an interesting read, and I A/B'd both the ash and alder bodied models, and it includes an updated pic of mine with the tort guard as well.

Fender discontinued the American Deluxe Precision 5!

Is this bass still available? There is one on ebay starting at $600
that ends in a few hours so I'm just wondering whether I should start bidding or wait to see if I can purchase this one. It's a sweet bass that I would love to add to my quiver.

The one on ebay has several issues, according to the auction. If you want a bass with several issues, get that one. If you want one without several issues, get this one.

$1200 is a very fair price for this bass, regardless.

+1

desko, that was a VERY thinly veiled attempt to dispute the price on this bass. Tacky. :rollno: If you feel the price is too high, then either PM an offer to lbpark of what you're willing to pay, or don't. Let's keep the thread on the high road, shall we?

There will be NO more stabs at the seller's price on this, m'kay?? He's already had to delete the first thread he had on this because of this crap.

Actually the one with the issues is mine (which is FS again in the forums, I was about to get sniped by an international guy who was going to bid on the bass even though I had disabled international, so I'm done with eBay for higher end basses after the second instance of that happening). One in this condition is worth 1200, it's a better bass than most Fenders.

I loved the one I owned like this one. I would snatch it up in a second but I'm cash poor...would have to sell something first and I'm not sure I'm ready to give up any one of my babies right now.

Good luck with the sale and...bump.

I sold this same bass in Butterscotch burst for more than this asking price, so it is in the ballpark price wise. And I also had some butthead send me a note as to what eBay had them for.
Go buy your eBay stuff if you must.
This bass in no longer made and is a great bass if you like Fender 5 string basses in the Deluxe active mode.
Or you can go spend double the money for Fender clones.
Good luck with the sale. It is a nice bass!

Anyone has got a link to a good quality recording/soundclip/videoclip that can give me a sense of how this bass would sound? I have never played a P before.

Bump for a bass I wish I could afford.
BTW What is the weight on these average?
I'll let the OP answer on his bass, but all three I've had were pretty much right at 9 pounds, which is interesting because one of them was an ash body. I expected that one to be heavier.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I'm lowering the price to $1100 shipped.

edit: don't have a scale but the bass probably weighs right around 9.5lbs

When I say this bass for 850.00 buy it now I got my funds together and when I went to buy it, lbpark had already grabbed it.
incredible deal. This bass is well worth the 1200.00 he was asking as the value is only going up up up on this one. To drop the price to 1100.00 shows lbpark is a stand up guy in my opinion.

I got involved in the seller's first attempt because of some folks taking shots at the price and here I am again. Listen folks, the man is asking a price that is reasonable for this instrument. Please have the decency NOT to try and devalue it in a public forum. If you sincerely have interest, then do the proper and gentlemanly thing - send the seller a PM. THAT is the way you discuss price. As far as what he may have paid for it(mentioned in one post) that is not fair game to be posted out here. Most of you would not want your business matters aired in public. Please offer the same respect.

I can also tell you that I owned one of these and not only is it a great bass, but when I sold it nearly 3 years ago on eBay, it brought very close to what the seller is asking for this one. That's in the time when Fender was still manufacturing this model. If you want one of these, step up and pay the man. This bass is a very nice example of that model. With the maple board, which is like the one I owned, it is a joy to play. Great sounds ranging from something reasonably close to traditional split-coil P-bass to a very "hi-fi" humbucker sound.
