n00b seller question: What means of packing do you ladies and gents use when shipping single pedals? Most include their boxes but anything else? Small bubble padded envelope? Slightly bigger box plus bubble wrap/newspapers/foam/wads and wads of toilet paper?

Comments

Everything I've recieved has been in a cardboard box, covered in LOTS of bubble wrap. I'm starting to think people around here have some sort of fetish with it...

My general method for shipping pedals is this:
1. If the pedal has its original box.

[outer box]bubble wrap/air pack/wadded newspaper[pedal box]{bubble-wrapped pedal, ensuring no air gaps in pedal's box for the pedal to bounce around in transit}[/pedal box]bubble wrap/air pack/wadded newspaper[/outer box]

2. If the pedal doesn't have it's original box.

[outer box]bubble wrap/air pack/wadded newspaper {very well bubble wrapped pedal (all sides), taped closed}bubble wrap/air pack/wadded newspaper[/outer box]

Outer box is well packed to ensure that there are no air gaps (these will almost assuredly crush in during transit, damaging what is inside) and that the box is solidly taped up (bring the ends of the tape to at least the middle of the box, don't use tape pieces that are too short, or the box will open during transit).

Don't use envelopes, bubble pack or not, if you can help it. They tend to get pretty beat up in transit and really don't protect very well. When possible, use a box that is small enough for a couple layers of bubble wrap, but not so large that you need a whole roll to fill in the space. Don't use packing peanuts, nobody likes to open a box and have a bunch of peanuts getting everywhere.

Other than that, bump for the Octron, my favorite analog octave-down tone effect pedal. :D

Thanks Mutt - This should really be a sticky. Better safe than sorry - especially with these little toys (and their sometimes delicate guts) we love so much.

I've been accused of packing pedals "for a nuclear holocaust" myself...

wow you totally over did it on the packing
which is awesome.
My SMBH arrived in a supper padded shoebox inside a super padded larger box
i never say this but you could cut the boxes down a little
it will save you money.
but you get an A+++
