I recently acquired this amazing bass thinking I was going to need a hollowbody for a project, turns out I need a five string not a hollowbody. So, I purchased a 5 string before receiving this bass and have to keep the five string unfortunately for a 6 month gig opportunity.
USA Lakland Hollowbody prototype
gorgeous mahagony body, cool figured maple top, natural oil finish
maple neck, rosewood board, with birdseye maple dots
weight seems to be under 9lbs
bartolini double coil with three way coil switch
lipstick pickup
vol, tone, and three way pickup selector
Lakland gig bag
excellent condition!!

$1495 shipped! cheaper than a cheap skyline hollowbody;)

amazing looking bass. My heart dropped when I saw it. Unfortunately cannot justify or afford anything like this. Good luck!

Great guy and great bass (it used to be mine). It covers a lot of vintage territory. If a Jack Casady and Jerry Scheff had a threesome with a lakland Hollowbody. This would be the offspring.

Sorry, I don't have sound clips. Sounds like McCartney meets Cassidy:smug:

Good description of the bass. The tone is more focused than most hollowbodies but still has a lot of air. More in the hofner, jack Casady family than the Gibson EB2 family.

I did 9 tracks of a 12 track record with it and it killed awhile back but the disc just got mastered and I don't have tracks I can post. Very old school and thumpy as opposed to big and bloomy.

Thanks for the description of the sound of the bass. I've got that sound covered. I was hoping it would be more of a Steve Swallow sound. A beautiful bass nevertheless. :)

You're welcome. The bass sounds great but it is the opposite of the Steve Swallow sound. It is more the Jack Casady and Phil Lesh hollowbody sound. Roots music and jam band stuff would suit it perfectly as well as neo soul. IME, it has two great sounds, solo neck pickup and solo humbucker pickup. Splitting the coils and combining the pickups leads to other options that work too, but those two tones are really the bread and butter of this bass. Neck pickup: hofner-y and thumpy; humbucker: like a really thick pbass with added air behind the notes.

Supposedly payment is on it's way, haven't seen the funds yet, but I'll update the thread as soon as everything is fully confirmed one way or the other.
