I've given serious thought to defretting this bass, and might still do that, but figured I'd toss it up for a while and see if there is anything interesting out there. Quite simply, I just don't play fretted basses anymore .....

Some bass specs:

FBB # 1112-06, 35" scale fretted 7, 18mm spacing at bridge, Hipshot hardware, FBB custom pickups, Audere Z preamp, passive by-pass switch to VOL only. 5A quilted maple top, African Mahogony back, 5 piece rock maple/bloodwood neck-through.

This is a serious bass, my main player for the past 4 years. It is a working bass, so it has some minor bruising but nothing significant (no gouges, chips, etc), mostly just some mojo funk from working hard. Currently strung with LaBella flats (.029-.049-.069-.089-.109-.128) six set with a high F SIT .018 plain steel.

Clips of the bass are in several spots on my web site and YouTube channel. This bass plays incredible well, has a huge presence in a live setting, excellent balance, thin neck profile, and is a striking looking axe. It's a big boy, too .... when looking at pics on my web site, keep in mind that I'm 6'5" and 250 pounds ..... not a small bass by any stretch.

I'm looking for a fretless 7 or 8 (single course), or a quality fretless 5. If the 5 is offered, it has to be something Fenderesque in shape, no small bodies or <18mm spacing.

I would consider an outright sale for $1,800 + shipping. I'm in no rush at all, willing to wait for a good deal on both sides. This FBB is a beautiful bass

Seriously Ed!?! You are selling your FBB 7!!! I never thought I'd see the day that this bass was going to be in the classifieds.

:D

It's all about the frets, J, all about the frets ..... I may just defret it if nothing interesting shows up. But have no fear, my FBB 6 is a hard working fool, and Matt will be building me a new 8 (or maybe a 9 ) next year ....

Right on, I vote Fretless 9!!! Or maybe a Fretless 8 like Jorg's old one.
I've been searching for Jorg's 8 for four years now .... it's somewhere in Europe at the moment, but I can't find the owner. I'd buy that thing in a heartbeat if I could ... :)

This instrument has been on my wishlist since I saw your original posting. It looks fantastic.

Thanks! It's a killer bass with an amazing voice and huge presence in a live setting, and plays like a dream. But as anyone that is a committed fretless player knows, it's hard to get used to the steel after playing fretless nearly exclusively ... :)

Wow, I have received four amazing trade opportunities today for some really sweet basses, but they are all fretless 6's, which I really don't need. I use an FBB fretless 6 that is singularly the nicest, best playing/sounding bass I have ever owned, plus I regularly use another fantastic fretless 6 Barker Vertical Bass, so my 6 string needs are well covered ..... :D

But, really, I appreciate what some of you are willing to part with to get your mitts on this FBB (and it would be well worth it ;))

Even more really sweet stuff offered up as trade bait

But everything has either been a 6 string or something fretted, neither of which really does me any good. Really looking for a fretless 7 or 8, or a cool fretless 5 Fender type bass ...

Or, of course, cash ...

This is a really cool bass bump.
Thanks! ... and yes, it is!

I can't tell you guys how appreciative I am of all the extremely nice trade offers I've received :bassist:. Unfortunately, these gorgeous trade offers just don't fit the bill for me .... I'd consider a decent bass + some cash, but that's not my first preference.

I'll leave it here a bit longer to see if anything shakes out, and if not, I might just de-fret it and keep it working ...
