After much deliberation, I have decided to take this bass off the market. Thanks for the interest folks.

A trade for a Fender Deluxe Precision with a maple board/satin neck that's either the early '00s passive model, or has an active/passive switch would be the cat's a$$, but we all know how it goes when wishing in one hand...... :D

I'm not opposed to trading down with cash on your end.
I'm really looking for a Fender style P/J, but would consider a straight P as well, so don't be shy in running your offers by me.
I would like to avoid gloss necks and 5 bangers.

Postal MO or cashiers check is strongly preferred, but this is negotiable, as is price.

Now for the lowdown on this bass.
-Limited edition transparent black burst on swamp ash body with solid black matching headstock
-#8 Quartersawn maple neck with satin finish & 1.5 nut
-Ebony fretboard, purportedly the last one released by G&L
-Tritone mod for series/single coil/parallel (very useful mod!)

It's the best craftsmanship I've ever encountered on a bass guitar. The neck pocket is the tightest I've ever seen, and the fret edges are just perfect. The back of the neck is perfect without a mark and the satin finish is the best I've ever felt. It's nearly flawless, save for your standard fretboard wear from rounds which is very insignificant. The frets are jumbo and hardly show any wear as well. Being that it's a 2007 custom shop it has been plekked and plays with low action.

There are 2 spots on the back of the body which have very minor surface swirl scratches which I'm sure will buff out with ease if you're even concerned with such a minor issue.

IMO the condition is a 9.5 out of 10.

Comes with G&L HSC which is in very good condition and has COA and polishing cloth which has never been taken from the bag.

It's wearing a new set of D'addario XLs, and has been setup for these strings. Also, it will have Schaller straplock buttons installed.
Weight is 9.72# on post office scale.

So the obligatory why am I selling question. Well, a couple of reasons.

1. I am really wanting a P/J and something has to go before something else comes in. I would love to keep this beauty and just buy the bass that I'm GAS'ing for, but that isn't financially feasible right now.

2. This bass has more than I need. It has a very wide array of possible tones. As much as I love the tone of these MFD PUPs, I am an expert of messing up the tone with so many switch/knob options, not to mention making up my mind on which one to use, hence the desire for a passive P/J bass. I also feel that it's a shame to let all these possibilities go unused.

In all honesty, this was kind of an impulse buy for me. I was in the process of selling a couple of basses and had some money in the bass fund. When I saw it on the forums for sale and I just "had to have it!". I will have another L2k again someday, when finances permit.

Don't let the pics fool you, the BABP logo blends in perfectly. I think the combination of the direct evening sunlight and the digi-cam made it look lighter than the headstock paint. Same with the transparent black, it's a bit darker than it looks in the pics. I was even thinking to myself when snapping the pics how much different the transparent finish looks in the direct sunlight.

Time for some decent pics:

Somebody should really buy this!

G&L doesn't make fretted ebony fingerboards any more.

It has the Single Coil Option, which I have on my L-2500 and it is definitely nice, especially if you're trying to get that single coil Jazz bridge pickup sound. You can get this option from G&L, but their basses don't come with it normally, so finding one with this option from the factory is a rarity.

They only made 23 of this BABP LE edition, I think and it has the cool (IMO, anyway) BABP logo on the headstock.

And who doesn't love a color-matched headstock?! That's a $150 extra cost option on a new G&L. I know. That's the upcharge I paid when I had to have my 2500 neck replaced by G&L.

"One thing I will mention is that it did have a drop D-tuner installed by a previous owner, but the hole looks and feels to have been professionally plugged."

Jazzmonkey,
FYI the patched hole in the head stock is on all G&L's something to do with the mfg. process I guess, so it is not actually a flaw.

I had one of these and it was killer! And yes, the "freckle" on the back of the headstock is where the neck is held in a jig during the manufacturing process. All the G&L headstocks will have that. A non-issue.

Thanks for the info folks! Much appreciated!

Phantasm - yeah, as nice as it is, I'm having a GAS attack and something has to go.

It is killer! It has a lot going for it, probably the most resonant bass I've played to boot!

Looks sweet. I wish I knew what I wanted. Spent an hour with Fender's today and left without buying anything. I want a good 21 fret 4 string with tones that will work for church, funk, jazz, rock, etc.

Is this bass noisy at all? I am tired of active bass hum and crap.

Super quiet as far as I can tell, even in single coil mode. Better pics coming soon!

Bump for a nice bass. Can the L2000 handle the low end or does it only excel in the mid to upper-mid range of the sonic spectrum?

Jazz is right, there isn't a bass out there that can push low end like one of these!!

Yeah, and if "normal" isn't enough, you flip the switch to Series mode w/Bass Boost and rattle the neighbors' windows!
