Fulltone Bass Drive

Okay... a resurrected thread, Yes.

I've been listening to a lot of different music lately and I've been hearing some sick sounding, grindy, dirty bass tones and it sounds great! So I've been seeing and hearing a lot about the Fultone OCD. It sounds good! So I began to check and see what else is out there that can do the same thing. Well, apparently the Xotic Bass BB can. From what I've read, it does it w/o sucking the bottom out.

(Now the slow me part)

I've been siting over here with a brand spanking new Xotic Bass BB that I won in a give-away some time ago. Duhh':o

Well, I decided to play it. I liked it too!:hyper:

For my taste, the Xotic Bass BB will work just fine. But the G.A.S. in me oozes out from time to time.

The question is: Which one, in your experience, sounds best to you?

Not which is better, that's subjective. I just want to hear other peoples experience who've used both pedals at one point or another. :help:

i have an xotic bass BB, a fuzzrocious OSD (based on the OCD so i presume pretty similar!) and a pre-MOSFET bassdrive.

i love the v. low gain (o/d) tone from the xotic, bass slightly boosted, treble cut a bit and gain at about 8 o'clock. not tried anything that beats this for low gain o/d. BUT i dislike the higher gain sounds, way too fizzy for my tastes. i use a W&C phat phuk B in front of my xotic, and using the PPB to drive the xotic gives a great heavier o/d sound.

the OSD can't boost the lows in the same fashion, though does a passable low gain o/d. for me, the OSD strength is the more aggressive, higher gain distortion tones (and sits between my BB and my fuzz pedals)

i have kepy my old bassdrive part for sentimental reasons, as it was my main pedal for 7 years in my last band, plus it sounds better with my stingray that the pedals mentioned above (mostly use passive basses now). also, the comp cut is great.

so, for me the BB and OSD have different strengths, BB more for low gain o/d and OSD for distortion. if i have to pick one i'd have the BB but only as i prefer o/d to distortion. both are great pedals.

Ok... u can truly say the BB is a great versatile pedal. Went to rehearsal and it was great! It has even inspired new material to be written. Nice and thick and grindy is my best description. It just has a great overall tone with the low end. I like it on slow to med tempo songs right under the guitars. NICE! I'm glad I have it and got it free!

I'll preface by saying i don't have a ton of experience with OD pedals, but I find the old, blue BassDrives superior to the newer ones. I originally tried the silver, pre-mosfet pedal and didn't like it. I got a deal on a first gen blue one, and it sounds really good. I've since tried the newer mosfet version, and my blue one is still better. IMO

I'm curious to know which version you guys are talking about in general. Seems like, with 3 versions out there, the blanket statements might be a little misleading. Anyone done any comparisons?

You won a pedal some time ago and you just played with it???:) I do not have that kind of willpower. If I buy something from a local shop or pick it up at the post office I basically run home like a little kid after the streetlights come on. Glad you got something you like for free.

I just really started to expand my horizons. You know how that old dog (Me) is. I've gotten much better now. I currently play through six pedals and may have a few more on the way. I'm like a kid in a candy store now days. Pedals... yay!:hyper:
