Future Sonics Atrio MG7s question(s), such as which Comply foam tips to get?

The title says it all. I just purchased a pair of discounted, like new Future Sonics Atrio MG7 IEMs through Amazon.com, and I'm planning on using Comply foam tips with them, as everyone seems to speak so highly of the use of foam tips (specifically Comply's, it seems) with IEMs across the board, including the Atrio MG7s.

Comply's website offers a lot of different options as far as foam tips go to use with the Atrio MG7s, including but not limited to "Active," "Comfort," "Professional," etc. Which should I get? And how do I know what size to get, whether S, M, or L? (Or would Mix be the best choice, so that I could try all the different sizes myself?)

My second and final question is this: I bought Atrio MG7s classified as "010-045," but I've also seen "010-046" and other combinations of numbers associated with them. What do these numbers mean? Are they relevant to me as the consumer? I kind of hope not because I already bought my pair, and they're on the way now! :hyper:

I use the "professional" series, I've found they work best for me for live stage use.

I got the mixed size set and tried them all before I could really determine which size was best for me. I initially thought the large provided the best isolation, comfort and fit, but they tended to bunch up a bit in my ear sometimes and blocked the sound exit hole. Mediums didn't have that problem for me, so that's what I stuck with.

I use the comply foam tips that look like round domes. I found that those seal the best once they expand in my ear. You won't be disappointed with your Atrios! I've been using them for years and tell every bass player I meet that they are the best bass monitor (and even reference monitor) IEM's there are. You can't beat dynamic drivers for accurate bass reproduction.

I did the same right off the bat when I got my UE's in getting the mixed set. Medium are just a tad too tight and the small are a little too loose. So I do the mediums. They aren't uncomfortable at all and seal great. I have thought about surgically altering them a touch, but honestly, it's not probably worth playing with.

I didn't realize they had other types, I have just bought the same M400 and M500's as I also have a pair of A-T EP3's that I use for casual listening on my MP3 player or iPad. I like saving my UE's for the show.

I'm guessing you're talking about either the Comfort or Comfort Plus style. (?)

And yeah, I anticipate being very pleased with them based on everything I've read/encountered online.
(Unfortunately I had to send back the "like new" pair I had purchased and received from Amazon.com -- they weren't working 100% properly -- but I already bought a brand new replacement set through InEarGear.com. After I receive them and about ~100 hours of pre-listening burn-in time, I expect to be in IEM audio heaven!)

Yeah, I've had poor experiences with rubber/silicon tips in my (admittedly limited) use of them, so foam tips are the way to go for me I think, even though they do wear out much more quickly.

That being said, I got my mixed-size set of Professional Comply foam tips in the mail the other day! I actually find that the smalls do a fine job of sealing my ear canal while also not being annoyingly invasive or uncomfortable. (I'm glad I got the mixed-size set, or I almost certainly would have gone middle of the road and ordered mediums!)

I had been using the small rubber tips but it's a battle to get them in just right that i tried the foam and am happier with the seal. Oddly the large ones work better so I have both now to compare. I'm full time with 4 sets a night 3-5 days a week so mine get a lot of use.

Yeah, I had the same issue with getting the rubber/silicon tips in "just right." The foam tips give me no such trouble whatsoever though, so it's a clear winner in my case.

Sounds like you have a good gig (or gigs) going! Cheers! :)

I just did a sound test, comparing my custom sleeves that I use with my Atrio M5s to the foam versions that came with the IEMs. I was surprised to see (hear) that the foams sealed better than the customs fitted that I paid $150 for. I'll be getting a sample set from Comply to try. Perhaps the audiologist did not do the mold correctly.

Are the custom molds full ear or only inner canal? I had custom molds done, but they were only made to fill the inner canal and not plug the whole ear (like hearing aids do) so any time I moved my jaw the seal would break. When I can afford it I'm going to have full molds made, but until then the comply foam tips work fine :)

Hmmmm ... now you have me wondering. The link to the site for the ones I have is as follows:

You have to twist them into your ear canal. They feel more like the whole ear type but I'm not sure. I could hear my little not-so-noisy desk fan running while wearing them (not so with the foams).

Those are actually the ones I intended on getting...you had those in w/music playing and could still hear your fan? Did the audiologist take full ear molds or just inner canal molds? Do yours look like the ones pictured? If they are they should also tuck into the outer curve of your hear to hold them in place/seal better.

The molds only cost $25 so I assume it wasn't a top-notch job. The ones I have are exactly as the photo with the hook that tucks into the outer curve. I found the foam to seal better. I would assume the Comply versions (I don't have them yet) will be even better.

I was going to get those done but now that the Atrios are discontinued I'm looking at something else. Shame too they sound great.
