Fuzz Pedal?

Being old school, I never thought much of pedal use for bass players.

However in todays day and age I guess you need something.

Currently on the floor

Korg ,Pitch Black

MXR Micro Amp

Digitech Distortion DS-1

MXR Bass Octave

EBS Multi Comp.

Here is where I think I need help.

I need to replace the Digitech Distortion with a decent Fuzz pedal. One with some thickness that will hump.

Any suggestions?

I will tell you that when I run the Octave Bass with the Digitech it does get thick with a very warm fidelity.

I tried a few - not ALL of them in the world of stomps, mind you - and I found my old DOD Flashback Fuzz to be about the best I could find anywhere.

Thick - chunky and really renders the low notes just as clear as the upper notes.

Think: Marty Robbins song - Link Removed for the max power it has!

Just listen to that bass come through in the chorus and again toward the end. I can absolutley - positively - undeniably fill your Pampers - duplicate that sound!

Really and seriously - this is one bad mutha underestimated pedal!

Oh, BTW: it can be turned 'way down to just a whisper too - it has knobs!

Just dropping a plug for the El Grande Bass Fuzz. Got one for sale..:ninja:.. but mainly there is a video demo of it in the add so you can see it in action.

+1 for the Grey Stache if you can find one. I don't think Ry is making them anymore, so you're unlikely to uproot one from a current owner if that's the case. I'll sale mine for 1 billion dollars...:D

I am still making Grey Staches! :)
It's the RAT TAIL that we're discontinuing.

I'm also looking to ditch the DS-1, and I noticed the bass big muff pi is the most popular bass effect at musicians friend. I've been listening to some demos of it against some other bass drivers online. It seems the blend feature allows some pretty heavy distortion without losing the attack in a pure square wave, so it's a lot like parallel compression in that way. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this pedal?

There are many threads about it.

In short, it's a pedal that many start with, but users ditch to go with 'the next big thing' or a more modded out big muff clone.

The biggest compaint about the BBM is that the blend is set firm at 50% and there's a volume boost. Not my cup of tea, but to each his own...

There's a ton of great fuzz on the market right now, the real question is what do you want to do with it?

For thickness and hump, muff variants with mid control are hard to beat. Grey Stache / Supercollider / Musket.

The only pedal currently on my GAS list however, is an Iron Ether Oxide

I would've said El Grande, too. It is thick to me. Just sold one because I didn't need that much oomph, but I thought it really good.
