FX cable question.

Gawd I don't want to even figure how much money I've invested in my board. Eesh. But, to me, it was worth every penny. And I'd rather spend the little extra money on good, reliable patches. And as stated, it all depends on what your definition of expensive is. I don't think George L's are that expensive. Especially for what you're getting.

RG 58 A/U, 100 ft roll = $17
George L .155 cable, 100 ft roll = $195

That's my definition of expensive. And for no discernible benefit, I can't justify it.

I do like their solderless right angle plugs though, but again:

GLS Audio pancake head = $1.50/each
George L right-angle solderless = $7.75/each

There's nothing better or more reliable about George L cables, so the slight benefit (smaller size, and solderless construction) isn't worth the cost in my book. But everyone's book is different.

To each their own. The cheapie 6" moulded plastic cables for just fine too and are even cheaper than your DIY cables.

My time is worth more than the difference between George L's and yours.

I would rather pay the extra $50-ish to avoid soldering 5 cables and screwing the heads on.

YMMV

The cheap chinese ones on ebay are about a buck a foot. I can make a single foot long patch for ~$3.17, plus five minutes of assembly. And I can exercise personal QC over the construction of mine.

And I like being able to make custom runs of different lengths, so I can route the signal however I want. Keeping things tidy is good for my OCD
