G.A.S. vs G.A.L. when it comes to amps

Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
Gear Acquisition Limit.
Two clashy things.

I've been at my working limit of basses and amps and cabs for quite a while now.
If I want something new, something's got to leave or my house will end up with nothing but gear in it, and I'll be broke.

Latest case for me:
I'd wanted to try the GK Fusion 550 for quite a while.
I wasn't regularly using my Mesa M6.
So: Mesa left, 550 ordered.

Feel free to share you recent gear dilemmas.....

I implemented that plan myself a few years ago. Any time I acquire a new bass, amp, or cab one must go out.

I have been a chronic gear slut for a long time. Note that by definition, the slut is in it for pure pleasure, whereas the whore gets financially compensated, which has always been an occasional rarity for this hobbyist....anyway.....

Basses: after peaking at 12 or so a few years ago, I now have 5. I jumped all over in terms of scale length and string spacing but finally settled on 34"/18mm and have no bass GAS currently, and do not foresee any.

Amp gear: I used to live in 2 places and now live in one, so the man cave is a bit choked with gear. I plan on keeping pretty much all of it, but there truly is no room (or need) for anything more. On top of that I moved back to Montreal from upstate NY after many years of straddling the line, and the absence of a US delivery address has introduced a "complication" to further transactions. Although this is not insurmountable, it has cooled the GAS, as has the fact I really loves all I gots. So my GAL has been reached through geography, space constriction, and my current belief that I have finally settled my bass gear....time will tell....

I want to try out some Pyramid Flats but they're a bit pricey. I have TIs on my bass right now that I could surely get some return on to help pay for the Pyramids. But I don't want to sell my TIs....

Basses: man, I'm set on basses. I say that, and really more or less mean it
After owning/using/collectiong for a long time, I had 35 basses at one point?

I'm done to a semi-sane number of 5 strings that cover several P and J variants I can rationalize-ish.
I'm always looking at stuff, but, I really have nothing I want, and nothing that's calling to me for a while now; and in fact I've been selling off my long treasured, and long held 4 strings with many touring/session miles on them as I just don't use 4 strings anymore.

Amps: also pretty well settled in on what works for me. The whole "neo speakers and micro amps" technical evo/revolution fueled most of that. Trying to find amplification that really worked well for doubling gigs fueled part of that.

Sadly (or possibly happily), my wife determines my acquisition limit. And being that I'm certainly no 'yes man', when she says no...I say no.

I only have bad GAS for a few things right now, but money dictates that I have to wait.

My current rig gets the job done and I'm satisfied with it for now.

I'm not making enough playing to cover equipment costs, especially since I'm GASing for gear like a Jule Amps Monique and M700. Hence the need to start socking some of the paycheck away.

I miss the days of $100-200 gigs.

I have what I have, and it's more than enough for me. I suppose I just think of it as a tool - if what I have works, why get more? What I have I'd already more than enough.

My wife has been very forgiving in regards to my gear hoarding lately. Maybe because I don't question her shoe/clothing/art supply stockpiles. We just moved into a slightly larger space, but still a 2 bed condo doesn't leave a ton of room (even if bedroom number 2 is my music room). I've put myself under a bit of a self imposed acquisition limit. I have enough stuff that only gets used at home or used by my bandmates more than me to justify buying more. Lately it's been an "if I can't built it/repair it I don't need to buy it" atmosphere for me.

There was a guy here once that said he "countered any radical gear purchases with equal or greater value jewelry purchases for The Wife."
I suppose that's a plan, albeit a doubly expensive one.

My bass number is more flexible. But these days I have imited my amp setups to three categories.

1) Gig rigs. Currently two.
2) Fun/experimental rigs. Currently one
3) Little practice amp. Currently one

I think I am going to keep these three categories and their corresponding amounts. One in one out for each. So if I find another rig I want to take out for work, I will own three only long enough to determine which one has to go (usually a few weeks ).

I want an Ampeg SVTCL, a V4B, a Barefaced Retro Six 10, and a Fender Anniversary Precision. But I'm already swimming in gear.

My solution? Being too busy with other stuff in my life to consider buying more.

I don't use flats and would never consider used rounds so I don't know if this is a joke. Is there actually a market for used strings?
