G and L L 2500

In the passive mode if I put volume knob at 100% and bass and treble knob at 0% I get very little volume. If I turn up treble to 100% still the same. If I turn bass knob to at least 80% then I get volume. Kind of odd. The two active switches work fine! Help

Sorry, confused drummer here. So by full on in passive I am adding bass. So full treble does nothing to raise the volume, but full on raises the bass level and volume. It almost seems like the bass dial is really the volume knob in passive.? Even then nothing much happens until the bass knob reaches 80%! This bass much different than my other five. Just wanted a five string! LOL

No. The bass and treble controls on the L-2500 are always passive. Think of the treble control like a tone control on a P bass...it just rolls off highs. I cannot add anything...only remove it. Same with the bass control...it can only remove low end. So if you roll off the bass and treble control...you'd only be left with what little midrange falls between the two roll off values which will give you very little output.

Where the bass and treble roll off on the L-2500 comes in handy is in series mode. The MFD humbuckers are so powerful that they will often put out way too much bottom end in series....so rolling off a little low end will make them sound more even. The treble control is the same use case as on a P or J bass. Roll off the top end to taste.

Passive in this context means that the controls will only cut. With that preamp, it's normal to get next to nothing with the bass control all the way down, depending on the tone of the amp you are plugged into.

Doesn't sound like anything is wrong - just set the controls where they sound good to you.

I use a GK 25 to practice with everything all the way up. Just perturbed that even at bassknob up to 85% there is very little volume then all of a sudden the volume jumps up very quickly.

Yeah, something is screwey there. I just went downstairs and plugged my L2000 in to check. Passive, parallel, both pickups, volume at 100%, bass and treble at 0: output is certainly diminished but I could play it like that by slightly bumping up the gain on the amp. Rolling up the bass and treble controls adds output in a predictable manner with no sudden volume spikes.

that seems like a different description than how I took it originally. maybe post up a video showing what you're experiencing or take it to someone in person who is knowledgeable. loom.com is a good free option for this kind of content sharing

Your pots might not have a great sweep so most of the adjustment happens between 70%-100%, it can happen. On an L2500 everything all the way up is "zero", then bass and treble are only cuts. The active switch is passive when down, has a pre-set active boost and sound shaping in the middle, then the same pre-set but with a treble boost when up. I've always like the sound of both pickups on, active in the middle, and all knobs 100%.

Sounds like something is wrong, my L2500’s don’t do this. You might lose a little perceived volume when you roll the tone knob back but it shouldn’t be a drastic loss of volume.

Maybe the caps on the tone knob(s) are suspect as it sounds like somebody isn’t filtering properly.

Yeah, I just went and tried mine too... I didn't know cause I always leave all three knobs full up. But when I cut the treble / boost it does just that, it cuts it back some. But with them both at full "off", you can still play like that comfortably. It doesn't decrease the vol by that much. So if yours cuts it to the point where you get "very little vol". Then something is wrong / shorted ....
