I took this home today with me from my pilgrmage to NJ guitar and Bass center.
G. Gould
5 string
35 inch scale
Graphite reinforced (http://www.ggould.com/images/necksection.gif)
EMG soapbars (Made for G. Gould)
EMG BQC - 18volt
* master volume
* pickup balance (clockwise=bridge p/u)
* midrange control. 'Hat' is boost/cut, ring is center frequency
* bass/treble. 'Hat' is treble boost/cut, ring is bass boost/cut

Cocobolo Top and Headstock Laminate
Alder Body/ with what I think is a Chechen fingerboard

Sweet, tight B, very even across the board with a slim neck profile and pretty lightweight body. The bass looks stunning and the body shape is very comfy and balances well.
also ...
What a GREAT store, you would not think to see it from the outside but there is a ton of hi end basses in there! I had a chance to try out alot of them the guys there are very very nice and helpful Im glad I took the hour and a half it took to get there. I will be going back for more!

Haven't heard too much about his recent work. Of course Geoff has a remarkable pedigree as the guy who developed the first graphite bass neck and started Modulus. I understand he knew a lot about graphite technology because he designed satellites (making extensive use of composites); is a bass player himself; and saw the potential for graphite as a super stiff, relatively light (in relation to stiffness) neck material.

Very nice & congrats, that top is beautiful! I've been going to Jay's place for almost 10yrs now, killer store.
I've spoke to Geoff Gould about my Modulus TBX that he was involved with designing/built with/for Phil Lesh in the early 90's. He's a great guy with tons of knowledge.

I have a quick question for you, what type of pre is in that Gould that you have? Is it a EMG or ???. I have a 2 band that I'd like to up-grade while keeping the original EMG pup's in it, they sound sweet.

cheers,
~S~

Man I love Jay's shop I cannot wait to go back, andwhat a nice guy to deal with. The G. Gould has a EMG BQC system, and it rocks

Bump again ... any other G. Gould owners out there?
Ive played this bass in the rehersal studio on a couple gigs and played it on a couple tracks and its performed very well in all situations, its aggressive sounding but it sits very very well in a mix (studio and Live), not hot, but warm and punchy. Very easy to get around on.
The boost/cut midrange and frequency knobs remind me quite a bit of an Alembic Low Pass filter, I know its not the same but it seems to be a similar concept and its very useful.

...gotta get off my ass & take some good pics of my TBX & post 'em, + Mr.Gould wanted to see a few...

~S~

Regarding Goulds work, it definetly is top notch & rates with the best out there, IME/IMO!

I would love to see some pics of your TBX as well, definitely a rare beast ...

I had contemplated asking if he would sell me a 2nd neck all graphite to use on this bass as well. current neck has 3 graphite laminates in a maple neck, I would love to hear what an all graphite neck would do to the bass. Hmmm maybe Ill drop him an email myself.

I agree, his work is right up there with the best of them...

They do seem to be a bit hard to come by the only place in the US that I see who constantly has at least 1 in stock is the Bass Place in Arizonia, other than that there are a bunch in Japan. An WOW they are sweet.

Well I thought I would bump this again to show off the New knobs from Roger at THG... just got them today. I think he did an incredible job- cocobolo with MOP markers.

Im not sure if I prefer the original black knobs though...
Anyway a couple of pics

Echo,

Did you bring this bass into The Groove Shoppe last weekend? David mentioned a guy stopped in with a G Gould that was pretty happening. I saw you were from LI and assuming it was probably you.
