G&L basses

The early ones usually get a good buck. G&L doesn't make anything comparible to the old SB-2(I happen to own an '84) or the L 1000. The LK1's can get a little pricey, but a good solid SB-2 should run you no more than $600 bucks if you can find one. Don't see too many around. I think I paid $200 for mine a few years back, with a couple of cosmetic issues. Great basses.

I like the early version quite a bit more than the current version. Over all the old SB-2 is a pretty cool bass. The only real downside is that you can't blend the pickups. It has a 3 position switch and its neck full on , neck & bridge both full on, or bridge only full on and oner tone control. Mine has more or less a P bass type neck profile as well.

BY blend I mean that you have a volume for each pickup like a Fender Jazz bass. The old SB-2 does not have this feature. It only has a master volume. So say for instance you wanted the neck pickup volume all the way up with just a little bit of the bridge pickup added, say with the volume a quarter way up. You couldn't do that with the original SB 2 as it only has a master volume, instead of individual volumes for each pick up(like a J bass or most 2 pickup basses. The other variaton on the "blend" thing is to have a master volume with a pan/fader type arangement that lets you mix the two pickups together in varying amounts. Think like a left right fader on your stereo, with the center position being both pickups on full.
The SB2 is set up like a Telecaster guitar. One volume, one tone. Three position pickup selecter. You can't control the pickup volumes individualy.
