G&L L2000 vs Musicman Sabre

Anybody tryied both? They look so similar, but MM is twice the money for G&L.

All i know is That the sabre pick ups are more towards the neck

Hey! I had a MM Sabre back in the 80's and a fretless G&L L-2000. These are both great basses or at least mine were. Sometimes I wish I still had them 'cause they'd be worth something now. Both were great sounding basses, however the maple neck went wonky on the Sabre. I had the board plained to get rid of the neck issue, but I moved off the east coast and it messed up again. The G&L was rock solid and sounded killer. You can't go wrong with either of these basses if the neck isn't twisted up.

Alnico (MM) vs ceramic (G&L) pickups, and a hotter sizzly preamp in the G&L.
To me the Sabre is a much warmer, and fatter sound. The G&L is a rather in your face/ballsier-mids sound, comparitively. Also *to me* the Sabre has a more tighter-focused slap & pop sound.

Thats interesting, I tought that G&L would be fatter. I have L1000 82' and its very bassy, almost too much.

To me that would seem because of the single forward position pickup.

Caca what would you say about hights in both basses? Which one is brighter in upper hights? Which one is a better singer?

I have both. In my experience, the Sabre is much brighter sounding with a lower output. The G&L is more versatile and, IMO, a far superior bass.

Ok. Now I got l1000 from 82 maple neck. I really enjoy the neck on this bass, but in sound I fell Im lacking some heights. Although Im not playing on single mode much. But how would you guys compare above basses to mine?
