G&L L2500 new vs old

I'm looking into buying an L2500 and in some cases standard second hand ones from early 2000's are not much cheaper than brand new ( say a couple of hundred bucks). If a bass had 15 years of non-gig playing and in good condition wouldn't it still make sense to buy the new one with 15 years less on the neck, electronics, paint etc? Wouldn't the case be 15 years newer as well? Assuming they're not custom or some great paint option wouldn't newer be more preferable?

Thoughts?
