Gallien Krueger 410B

Hey guys. So I just bought this GK cab from a friend. It's an 80's (I think?) 4x10, the one thats covered in carpet with the pink and blue logo. I just have one major question: how much power can I put through it? I've seen in some threads that it can take 200 watts, but in another they were talking about using 400. Haven't found a real, solid answer yet. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I remember those! I used to use see them in rehearsal spaces. The heavy rocker dudes didn't like them because they were kinda tame sounding.

You can supposedly throw 200 watts into it electrically, but you'll get a bit more perceived volume out of it if you don't push too much bass through them. If you're used to boosting the bass knob on your amp, the cabinet will bark angrily quite easily. They have pretty good midrange though - which makes it sound and feel louder than its power rating lets on.

So keep your bass control set modestly, and then play around with your low-mids. What head are you going to drive it with?

I actually don't have a head unit yet. I've only owned an Acoustic B15, this is my first upgrade. I've been thinking about buying a new Trace Elliot Elf to go with the cab, but I'm still unsure. Do you have any suggestions?

I have an Elf and have powered similar cabs with it. It should work well and sound good.
If you want something with a bit more control you could always go for a GK Fusion or Legacy head. I'm not sure where you're from but there's also Traynor. The Traynors are excellent and not too expensive.

Dude here on CL has this for 125.
Says it's 380 W 8 Ohm...

If that was from the Madison CL, I bought it. I have a GK MB Fusion 500 and a Mesa D-800 that I've tried carefully with it, the GK sounds better to my ears. Pretty mid forward sounding.
It was indeed. I am kinda "iffy" about buying used gear, cuz I am not proficient with what to look, or look out for.
Turned out good for you then?
I see you are in Lodi...Sun Prairie, here

That's actually a later model than the ones I used. Mine didn't have the pink logo, and had vinyl instead of fabric.

As long as no drivers are not damaged, it should sound pretty good. Actually, if you're playing on a stage that has loud subwoofers, the mid-range tone from that cab would blend really nicely. You'll get all the kick from the subs, with a confidence boost from the clarity of that bass cabinet.
