Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II

I can't tell you how many situations a GK RB series head delivered for me. Put a VT Bass in front of it and it will warm up and get gritty at lower volumes. It will give you what you need at home and out on the town. It's a best buy on the used market IMO and I really can't see anyone not being able to get a usable tone out of one.

I always keep one around even when I am playing something else.

I had to turn mine up last night, it can get very quiet. I go back and forth in my mind about selling or trading mine because it's so big and heavy and the tone is decent but not exactly what I'm looking for. However it is famously durable and that's really important to me because I've dealt with faulty amps in the past and it's a pain. That said... anyone wanna trade for a Genzler? Haha

By any chance have you ever tried running a VT Bass ahead of it as @DD Gunz suggested? Saying it's a good recommendation is an understatement IMO. That's my setup-of-choice as well. My VTDI is my only pedal, and always on (in fact, it's stashed in the rack, and I couldn't even turn it off if I wanted to)!

Yes I actually have, it's a good combo. I now use a B7K in front of it and that combo is really really good too. I just think the standalone tone is just okay, not incredible. Just my taste though and there are other things about the amp that are great.

I feel good about this head. G-K is out of Stockton, CA, and Made in USA. You know, that confident feeling when that ultimate, elusive tone may finally be just around the corner. I'm feeling that right now. I'm so sick of chasing it. If this is anywhere near it, I'm done searching.

I couldn't recommend any of the GK Neo cabs for this amp. A 212 for what your want would be ideal. Maybe even a 112. But the Neo cabs are glorious imo. I've been pummeling mine for over 5 years and it's still taking it like a champ and will most likely do the same for many years to come. Love that cab.

I pm'd Mr gregmon, and he loves the neos. So that may be a way to go. I'll tell you though, hearing that RPH. Man, nothing like it. I just have a feeling they are like my CV loudspeakers. Nothing touches those 2 15s a horn, mid, tweet. Shake the world up. Needs it. Not like with freaking nukes but some damn good music.

I just picked up a used Mesa 115 for 99 bucks from the local GC to hold me over. It seems to play well tho beat. They also had a couple of Eden XSTs. Big as heck. Those were not $99.

I've only played a handful of cabs and it still blows me away how much power the Neo can handle. I play in a loud hard rock band and my Neo has always taken anything I've thrown at it like a champ. Ive considered getting another Neo 410 to stack the two but I really haven't ever needed it. The one 410 sounds huge. Absolutely massive with my 180w Electric.

I also have thought about getting 2 8ohm NEO 410 cabs and stacking them (mine is a 4 ohm) but I really don't need it and will also just make it harder to push the 700rb II, which sounds great to me the more it is pushed. Not to mention that just 1 NEO 410 cab with this head puts out a ton of volume. :bassist:

The Mesa 115 is sweet with a 50T. Can't wait to check out the 700.

The Mesa appears to be an older diesel. Popped the back and there was an EV in there that looked to be possibly original, and there was fiberglass(?) insulation well fit top, bottom, sides, back.

I've looked at Ampeg and honestly came close to jumping for a 410 SVT Classic.

I think I'd rather have a USA made. I'll keep my eyes out.

Would you agree that the 400RB growls more than the 700RB II? actually I'm looking for the classic GK growl since I play in a metal band, can you notice the difference between those to amps? please advice. thanks!
