Well, it happened again. I went to GC and played that "other" brand... Ampeg SVT-7Pro through a 410HLF. Sounded glorious, if a bit loose and undefined. Looked at the price, same ballpark as my 700RB-II and Neo410 when new. Got me thinking.

Went home, plugged in to my GK rig. The Ampeg is once again an afterthought, if even that!

TL;DR - GK for life!

So I'm thinking if I'm going to be dragging around my 800RB regularly again I should get it in a rack. Any idea where I can get some? It's dated 3/86.

Or, maybe I should save it for the studio and get something else to drag around? I have an MB200 for small gigs but that's not the same so I'm skeptical of spending money on an MB800.

The older 800RB's rack ears replaced the entire sides of the amp, the only choice is to find used ones, or find a sheet-metal shop and have them made.

He might be able to adapt those to work.

Hi all.

I have a quick question. I thought I'd ask here first instead starting a thread. Hopefully an easy answer.
I've been using a RB 700 ii head for a while. The practice space's cab that I usually use uses a 1/4" jack and I have had no issues. One day I had a gig where the cab was a ampeg fridge. Not sure what model. The connection was speakon. After about min of connecting it I started smelling smoke. Didn't see anything and instantly disconnected. The amp that the place was using was a class TC amp. I haven't had issue since using a 1/4" at the practice space. That was months ago. Any reason why this happened and is there anything I should be careful about when using cabs?

I had something similar happen to my 1001-II. Asking here in the forum, I was told that, if you use a speakon cable (especially, the 4-pin connector type used for the GK bi-amp feature) on a cab that doesn't support that feature you can damage the amp. Although mine didn't smoke, I did lose half a wave form from the power section.

That's what I figured. So if I get to use that cab again, it would be safer to use the 1/4" I guess.

Mesa Subway 12/15 stack. Kind of a contrast in tones but it works (for me).
Thick, rich, punchy.
Here's a recent live setup pic with Mesa badges removed.
They were messin' with my GK chakra
And yes - I do sound for the band for small gigs like this chicken wing dive bar
