Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

Can't tell from the video if it is in the chain or not. I don't know why an un-racked piece of gear would be there if not being used? If it (SansAmp) is in the effects loop at the back of the units we can not see to confirm or deny?

Reminds me to knock the dust off a few electrons in my old 800RB though.

I just didn't see the red light on the front of it being on so I assumed it wasn't in use

My audio is not the greatest, Bluetooth, bass heavy so I can't say for certain about the low end response. The 800RB is not voiced on the low fundamentals and of course we never heard of a failed indicator light or wire cutters. The overall response (ignoring the lowest register) is very familiar with my MIM Jazz 5 and Swingbass 66's.

It's weird how I'm just getting a completely different tone. Could it be just the strings or my cabinet making a difference? My tone sounds a bit muffled on the lows

If "muffled" is a more or less accurate descriptor, like "a wet blanket over the cab" kind of tone then look towards a soured string (age, humidity mixed with perspirations , reversing the coil of the string when restringing or just a bad string wind) or pickup height too low. Playing style changes tonal qualities a bunch as well. I've demonstrated 10 distinct tone variations with pluck. pick, slap and pop on different positions from bridge to neck even without changing pickup volume blend or "tone" pot. From what I heard now that I think about it more, it does sound a lot like a base slap tone, just not as sharp/overdriven in the mids (less pressure in the slap).

That's kind of exactly what it sounds like. A wet blanket over the cab on the low end. The E string just kinda sounds like it's making low noise wherever I go on the fret board. It just doesn't sound clean like his recording. The other strings don't sound as crisp either. I don't think it's string height as I just changed the bridge and made sure to annotate and adjust the bridge height/tension rod. But never hurts to double check the pickup height as I didn't even think of that. Thanks for the tips!

Thank you!
It has been a decade filled with personal loss, pain and disasters. My "filters" had well failed and no one deserved to be subject to the unrestrained and unwarranted ramblings. I hope at some point to once again be a supporting member, this will have to wait for now even though I consider the value of it in high regard.

I still feel sad when I log on and some of the mods and members I came to know and appreciate are lost to time. It is what happens the longer we remain.
I want to echo others...Its good to see you back Man...Cheers

I recently got a 700RB, and like it a lot. I'm considering mating it with a Hartke 115HD and a Hartke 405XL 'mids box', I'll run them bi-amp.
So far I'm using an old Carvin 215 loaded with Eminence 3015s, a 4 ohm cab. It's a smallish, short-throw box and a cool small club system. But I don't think it's ideal... I like the Hartke stuff, we'll see.

I've also got an old 400RB, and use it with the same Carvin cab. I'm still learning about how to EQ/set these. I had an 800 years ago but never did really get it together- my attitude toward gear has changed and I'm taking my time.

The other night I used the 700RB into the Carvin cab. I I ran from the amp's DI to a Hartke Kickback 12 on the guitarist's side of the wide, shallow stage. I also ran from a SansAmp Bass Fly Rig's (basically a VT pre) DI to the pa. The result of going to the little Hartke was a nice monitor for the guitar player that could be eq'd to taste, and given more or less volume. Really tied the band together...

Anyway that's my chime-in. I'm liking my GK heads, still looking for the right cab. I'm open to suggestions, but I've been looking at that newer Hartke 115 and a bi-amp-able top cab (the 405XL). I like the smaller, club/pub-size form of that combo...

That Carvin sweats charm!! Love it.

I've been trying to dial in a solid sound similar to this with my 800rb but I'm finding it really difficult! This is basically the tone I'm looking for. Anyone have any guess on the settings for the tone in question? (video is too blurry for me to pick it out)

KEY is the Bag End S15D cabs, I still have them. They are an awesome pairing with GK.

I'm on my 2nd go round with the legacy 800. For whatever reason I'm way more impressed this time. I guess I just didn't give it enough time the last time around.

A lot of the tone problems I've had in the past are magically solved. I've played mesa subways for the past 7 years and have done nothing but twiddle with knobs. I rarely ever touch a knob on my legacy other than the master volume.

That's been my experience too - the basic tone of the Legacy just slots into a mix really well.
You don't turn knobs on the Legacy to get a usable tone, you turn knobs to fine tune, compensate for the room/cabinet/etc.

I just bought a used MB112. It's the older generation amp that doesn't have the Chain-output feature. I still haven't tried it with my band and suspect it'll probably be adequate, but I'm curious about adding more power....Can I drive a powered cabinet or a second amp from the DI XLR jack?

I don't think so, man.
The chain out is for MBP cabs but aside from that I don't think that amp has a speaker extension option.
Would a powered PA cab from that DI be the same as just going to FOH speakers?
Good question, but I don't know enough to recommend that as a workaround.
Maybe someone else around here can chime in.
Also, sometimes calling GK works great.

The DI out is very low level designed for mixer inputs. I would highly recommend a balanced to unbalanced buffer from the DI that could then be sent to the input of a second amp. A powered PA cab may be able to use that DI output, you would need to know the input level the specific powered cab accepts.
The "Chain output" IIRC was a hot output of +10dbm. GK would be happy to confirm, they really are nice folks there.

I went to the Gallien Krueger site and noticed they have a bunch of email addresses up for inquiries, so I've sent an email asking them. I've seen people elsewhere remarking that GK is particularly good dealing with customers, so hopefully they can tell me. I'm a bit puzzled by B-String's suggestion regarding a balanced to unbalanced buffer between the two amps....I just don't know what kind of device a person would need to perform that function. I'm thinking that if I did occasionally need to add a second unit to provide additional volume, I'd probably use my 70 Twin Reverb head unit and my 15" JBL bass cabinet. I don't know what kind of signal voltage a Fender Twin would need to drive the preamp properly. This might not ever become an issue....My band doesn't play overly loud, and so far, I'm impressed with how much jam the GK 200 watt amp seems to have.

an ABY pedal is an easy solution .

But yes, I agree that the folks at GK (Jason ,Forest and @rag ,etc ) are the most helpful people and really do care about their customers .
they are truly a blessing in todays corporate world.
