Gallien-Krueger head Question.

Hey guys, it's about that time for my new amp, I just need $160 more dollars. Anyway I'm getting a:

Gallien-Krueger 410SBX at 8-ohms (400 watts or 800 watts?)
Gallien-Krueger 115SBX-II 8-ohms (400 Watts)

Now the head is my question. Would the 700RB-II or the 1001RB-II be more ideal for this setup. Also tell me which watt for the 410SBX I should get. Would the 1001RB-II be too powerful? Is the 700RB-II not enough power? I know I'm getting a full stack for sure.

I'm planning on buying used because I'm only 14 I'm spending about $1200.

well, how big are your gigs? They're pretty much exactly the same, one just obviously has more power.

At 14 years old II would say I highly doubt you need the 1001RB, but if you're getting used then you could probaly find one cheap enough. Hey if you can get the more powerful one why not?

My gigs are pretty big (350 people). Would the 1001RB-II blow the speakers? Do you know how many watts I should get on the 410? I want the more power to keep up with my loud guitard player playing through his tube Marshall amp.

get the 400W SBX 410, the 800 is not needed. As for the head, either would work. If you like the GK growl and want to be able to get that at a decent level i would go with the 700RBII if you are looking for more volume at clean then go with the 1001

It also depends on the kind of tone you want... the 1001 will give you more clean headroom. I believe Mr. Gallien himself said that it's easier to "hit the rails" with the 700, which will give you the famous GK amp grind. The 1001 would have to be a lot louder to reach the same threshold.

When I was 14, my parents bought me a little Acoustic 136 combo that cost $150. I beat that amp like a bad dog. Blew the speaker twice.

Anyway, what was the question? ;)

Oh yeah, get a 1001 if you can afford it, but with that speaker setup, a 700 will easily handle a 350-seater. Headroom is a good thing, but if you don't ever use it, most of it's wasted.

Normally Id say buy the biggest, I certainly got the 1001.

But these, 'the 700 will sound better at sensible volumes' people are right. If there's one thing Ive learned about the 1001, its that it doesnt really bother with sensible. :)

Poll or no poll, still depends on which one you want.

Me, Id have the 1001 and 4x10". No 1x15".

You, do you want a cleaner, almost-infinite-headroom head or a hard-worked grittier head?

Edit- and as someone who's done the 4x10, 1x15 thing, do you really want the stack?

I think I want the more clean because my band plays country, pop, and classic rock. If I needed some grind I always have my BIG MUFF.:p

I know I want the full stack because I have a Peavey 115 combo and doesn't keep up with my loud guitard at all without clipping and sounding horrible.

Get the 1001 RB II from RMCaudio 600 shipped and get an Avatar B410 NEO (4ohm) 1000 watt cab. 450ish.

For around 1000 bucks you will have enough volume and portability for any gig. The only GK cabs I have found I liked are the GK 12's.

I owned the Avatar 410 Neo and the GK 1001 RB II. Incredible. TONS of clean headroom and the Avatar cab sounds really good with this head.

A 15" and a 2-10" is the new 4-10". It's modular and small, runs at 4 ohms, allows for vertical stacking so you can actually hear it yourself, and moves just as much air as a 4-10". I subbed out a 12" for the top cab, but a 2-10" is the more common setup.

I used my 700RBII head in a 500 seat or so place through a 4 ohm sunn cab. only turned up to 10 o clock or so and they had to turn me off of the PA I was so loud apparantly. But the people doing that were about being as quiet as we possibly can despite it being a rock concert. It ends up the turned ALL the instruments off of the PA cept the vocals.

The sound guy was someone I'd always hated but didn't really know.

Anyways 700 is plenty loud enough especially with 2 cabs compared to my 1, up to you.

I haven't read the GK manual recently (its the same for the 700/1001, and it's onine) but I think at 8 ohms the 1001 will give 450 watts or so to each cab which will kill people. And will handle fine since you can't and won't need to push them.
