Gallien Krueger RBH115

I am trying to figure out if a GK RBH 115 could be used as a single cab solution for home practice and jammin with friends (yes with a drum but not overly loud). I did some searching on here but did not really find an answer to my question. Every reference I found was referring to the RBH 115 being used to fill out an existing rig's bottom end or adding to a combo.

So... can this cab be used on it's own or would it just sound muddy and/or fail to 'cut through the mix' when playing with others.

This is a great cabinet that can certainly be used in full range mode. I believe it has a tweeter as well. If you decide to biamp it in the future, it will definitely serve you well as the low end woofer, but I would not hesitate a bit to use as a stand alone cabinet.

Mind you, if you're going for that "Marcus Miller" sound, there are better choices. But for the majority of rock, blues, funk thumping stuff....great cab

Thanks for the reply dogbass... I'm just learning and trying to put together my first rig and there is one available locally for $200. Think I'll go check it out!

$200 is a great deal on that cab. I guess the excitement over neo speakers and cabs is creating some good deals on the heavier stuff.

i saw that one too....i would have jumped but the guy had no gear to test it with and i didn't feel like dragging a 50 pound head and a bass downtown....

Yes you can use it on it's own. I have two of these and I rarely use them together because I have two band rehearsal places. So in practise I use them alone with 1001-rb head. And I can tell you that they cut through the mix and we play loud! Ofcourse if you have bad EQ settings, then it is a different thing.

I played through one tonight and I was extremely impressed. It was used as a stand alone with a Hartke amp head. Unfortunately I didn't pay close enough attention to the amp head so I don't know which one it was. Next week I want to try my LM2 with it and see how she sounds.

Great cab, plenty of mids, good lows, tweet for sheen. Good taught punchy bass sound. The tilt back feature is cool too.

A school in Ft Lauderdale area is using just one with a GK 350 watt MB500. They have about 25 -30 onstage mainly playing horns. Drums are electric. They told me that cab was all they need for the stage, but they run it through subs for the house. (If they added one more they would be running the MB500 at the full 500 watts)
