Gallien-Kruger MB210

Lets go through my current rig:

Hartke 5500 into GK Goldline 2x10 and 1x15 cabs.
and a GK MB115 Ultralight Combo for gigs.

I've grown to love my Ultralight Combo and even regret my Hartke and GK Goldline purchase, but I'd like to get more out of my Ultralight rig. I'm thinking of selling the Hartke and my Goldlines along with the Ultralight Combo for the 500 watt 2x10 Ultralight Combo along with a 1x15 Ultralight cab as an extension.

Is this a good idea? What 1x15 Ultralight cab should I get?

Only you can answer the question of whether or not it's a good idea but personally, I wouldn't. Not that I've spent a whole lot of time with the MB210 but, when I have played through it, I didn't like the tone of it at all. I really, really wanted to like it, but it seemed pretty boomy to me. YMMV.

i have an MB210 with an MBE115 cab, it does have an immense amount of bottom but with a bit of lining in the cabs and some experimenting with the EQ it sounds very good, I have my bass EQ right down and put a bit more on the LO MID to compensate and it sounds great .
I really like the practicality that the light weight brings, to have your 500 watt 210 bass amp combo in one hand and your 15" extension cab in the other and your bass on your back is amazing, carry your whole rig in one go without breaking into a sweat :hyper::D
My problem will be next year, I will be 50 and have promised myself a new amp and bass as a birthday present, well it is a special landmark :hyper:, I have started saving for it, I do not know what amp to get, what amp can match the MB210s lightness and be superior in sound quality etc ? I know what bass I want, a USA Fender Jazz Deluxe in 3 colour sunburst with Rosewood board .

I have the MB210 combo and when I first got it, I thought it was a little boomy. However, Ive found a sweet spot with the EQ which sounds flat to my ears. But as with music and tone, its all personal preference.

If you do like the sound of the MB115, then +1 to KPJ's suggestion of getting the MB115 powered speaker. That way, you have your MB115 as a small portable practice amp, and when you have gigs where you need a little more oomph, just carry the powered 115 along with the MB115.

That would be a nice little portable rig.

GC usually keeps the MB210 in stock, so check your nearest GC and see fi you can go try one out. You wont know if its for you until you try it. If you do test one out, try it with all the EQ's on noon. Then try it with treble and bass around 10, and high mid and low mid around 1:00. Give it some gain and boost and see if it meets your liking.

I have mine set up on those settings, which sounds flat to me, but I use the programmabe sansamp to shape my tone. Im essentially using the MB210 as a powered 210 combo.

I just picked up the MB210 for around $400 because GC is discontinuing it. I had tried that new TC electronics 1x15 they have out now, which I had every intention of buying. But when I plugged into the MB210, I thought it just blew it away. I like it to be really snappy and poppy.

Has anyone figured out how to get a nice low end without the trebely string clicking sound?

I just returned my mb210 tonight. I paid $550 for it (on sale at GC) and as I was walking out, I noticed a used one for $279 (In Minnesota). Go figure. :hmm:

I was looking for a smaller/lighter combo amp for smaller roomed gigs that was easy to haul in one load. Actually, the mb210 is perfect for that. In fact, it'd easily be capable of doing larger gigs as it definitely has the power. The deciding factor for returning it was that it actually wasn't much smaller than my 1001RBii and Dr. Bass 210 cab I've been using for smaller gigs. It's not surprising that the 1001RBii/DB210 rig just sounds better.

I can't really say anything bad about the amp itself, though. If I didn't have the RB and 210 cab already, I'd definitely still have the mb210. I'm still looking into the new Mb112 ii, though. That could be just the right amp to fit my needs at this point.
