Double Bass Gamut Pistoy vs. Pirastro Chorda

Hey there!
I'm going to buy a D & a G of gut and i want to know if there's anyone who have compared these two and can tell some differences. Right now i have a Chorda G on in really bad shape that has to either be lubed or changed. I really dig the big bottom though.

I tried Chorda G Carlos Henriques. This strings is ok. Now I play Gamut plain D and G. When i compare them i like the Gamut G more. I think Gamut is the best choiche.

Does the Gamuts have as much Bottom in the G string? It's an important factor to me.

Get a Lyon G and Pistoy D. You'll have some bottom for sure!

What kind of sound are you looking for? I have played almost all the "boutique" gut strings, so I could probably point you in the right direction. Of course, it all depends on your bass and your situation.

As I've said before, I think the Chorda's get undeserved bad press around here. I find them to be wonderful strings for the sound I'm going for and my playing style.

My bass has a lot of clarity but it can lack in bottom even with Animas. The Chorda G gives me great bottom so i would like as much bottom or more. I would like a string with the bottom qualities of Chorda but with a bit more clarity.

Hmm...

The Gamuts have more clarity than Chorda's, it seems to me. For me, what I could never get past about the Gamuts was their milquetoast-ness in the mix. They sounded great when I was practicing, but when I was working, I just couldn't hear them as well as Chorda's. If you is using an amp, you can probably tweak some EQ or turn that knob that makes everything louder.

The Gamuts have many fine qualities. They do stabilize very well and pretty quickly. And, I did find them to have more clarity of pitch. They also bow very well. In summary, I think you should try the Gamuts. They are great strings, for people that aren't me.

ok, i've decided to try a D&G Pistoy's. I'm thinking medium for both since i have animas up on E&A. What do you guys think? Actually i've already placed an order, but i just want to know what you think. The only concern i have is the D, if it should be medium or light plus during the big diameters.

I've found the gauge has more to do with the tension and stiffness than with the physical diameter.

I prefer the heavier sizes. I think right now I have a Med+ D and Heavy G. Lyon.

I've got both my Gamut D and G string medium. They work well with the Animas. This is a good mix. Don't matter to much about the big diameter of the D string. You will get used to it.
