I can get much closer with the EHX MicroSynth than I can with just my EBS Octobass and compression. I think you need that filter modulation to give the notes some shape.

If it were me, I'd try an analog octaver like the Boss OC-2 down one octave, and add just a hint of envelope filter with a fairly dark top frequency. I know I sent this to you in a PM, but since you posted it in public too, I'll post it here for the record.

Re: synth pedals, a synth pedal might have a similar sound in it, but it might not, too. Really depends on the specific synth pedal. And frankly, I think they can all use some outside help from other pedals.

Aaahhhhh, I remember this song now.

What JimmyM said, I hear a smidge of filter on there.

Maybe try an autowah/filter that's set to downsweep "awww" instead of "wwwahh". The [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] does downsweeps and purportedly isn't as "deep" as some filters (which is what I'm hearing in this song). Of course it won't be same-same, but it'd be close-ish with some OD.

Another pedal to check out would be a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] (discontinued, have to buy used). That might have all the synthyness and wah you need all in one.

Boss has a pedal similar to the DOD:

You may not be able to justify one of the above for one song on you set list, so something that's far more versatile that may still get you there without eating up pedalboard real-estate, the Zoom MS-60B. There's a thread on TB with lots of suggestions on how to get synth sounds out of it. You could run autowah, dirt and octaver on it at the same time, if I'm not mistaken.

Fantastic pedal, I really must get one myself, eventually.

I used to play this song years ago, and I used the Boss SYB-5. I don’t remember if it sounded exactly like the song, but I didn’t get any complaints. I didn’t get the pedal for the song. I just used what I already had.
