But can anyone explain to me why exactly gas has fallen?

The price of a gallon of gasoline is dependent on the cost of the crude oil plus the cost to refine it, formulate it and transport it plus the addition of government taxes and company profit. The cost of the crude oil is the only one of these factors that has changed significantly in the past year.

A year ago the world demand for oil was very high and that pushed the price of crude oil to $150 a barrel. During the past year, markets all around the world have plummeted (you might have seen something on that in the news) and the demand for energy went down and therefore the demand for oil plummeted as well. Now the price of crude oil is around $40 a barrel.

When gas dropped to $2.50 or so per gallon we planned out a road trip to Florida.

Now I'm seriously thinking about swapping the jets in the 75, making a few tweaks so I can maybe eek out 15mpg... if gas is <$1.50 this winter, why not. Florida here we come!

I just bought round trip airfare into tampa, and out of jacksonville for $185 total. Still not worth it to drive.

I topped off at $1.93/gallon yesterday, just in time for my ~3 hr road trip to Asheville this weekend!

I'm hoping it continues to drop, as I've got a bigger one coming in December, to Orlando to spend Christmas with the family.

Of course, my ride gets ~25 mpg, so it's not THAT bad in any event...

1.85 here in Cental Connecticut. I'm not complaining, but too bad the busy summer traveling schedual's over, just local winter gigs.Of course by the time it starts warming up, it's going to be right back up there, so enjoy it while we can.
