Gauge for F# string

Hello folks,

A friend of mine needs some input for the gauge of a F# string. He needs this to keep up with the 8 string guitars. He will tune it down to Eb (yes, it's low, I know). His bass guitar's tuning will be based on Drop Ab, but then with an extra low Eb added. So that would be Eb Ab Eb Ab Db Gb B. He is playing a 7 string Conklin Groovetool, 34 inch scale length.

The low B is a .155

As thick as possible probably tapered would be best...


But wow that low? An octave pedal would work too. I'm pretty sure that Eb is below what humans can hear... He isn't a music therapist for elephants is he?

If it were me and the guitars were that low I'd just play above them.

I have a .175 for my low F# on my Conklin GTBD. Groove Tools are 34" scale. I bought a single string from bassstringsonline (rotosound) but it's a long scale string and it's a bit floppy. You can get a .194 on Conklin's website thats meant for a low C#. CircleK strings is his best bet for options, thats what I'll be doing when I change strings on it next.

Just to clarify, does he want an F# string or an Eb string? If he wants to use the drop Eb tuning, he should look for a set of strings that looks like this:

.232 .158 .118 .090 .067 .049 .035
