A couple months ago I was in guitar center and got excited when I saw one last set of sunbeams on sale for $5 until I noticed they were short scale. I picked up my first short scale bass a couple weeks back. Today at GC that same set was sitting there waiting for me. I'm looking forward to trying these. I have Hi beams on now and they sound great. That's it. I just wanted to gloat a bit.

One thing to keep in mind is DR's "short scale" is longer than most. 33" winding length (ball end to taper) for the E and 33.75" for the other three. I don't know how long that particular set has been sitting on the shelf, but the E used to be 33.75" like the other three. Just make sure they're not too long on your "short scale" bass.

So all you needed for some bargain strings was a new bass?
That’s some classic TalkBass logic!

Kinda off the subject but WTH. It's about GC. I was in GC a couple of weeks ago looking for some 5 string flats. One of their so called sales people came over and said: "can I help you"? I said ya, I'm looking for 5 string flats, X brand. " Oh, we don't sell 5 string flats, sorry". He walked away setting down on a stool at the end of the counter. Hauled out his phone and started texting. As I turned back to the bass string rack, there they were, exactly what I was looking for staring me in the face. I grabbed them and headed to the counter. This idiot never got up to check me out and he was the only one there.

A young kid walked over from the string rack to do so. He said: "did you find everything "? I said yes, no thanks to him. The person that told me they didn't have any looked up from his phone and said: " that's pretty rude ". I said it was the truth and meant to be. Learn the merchandise here and leave you $%#&% phone home! You are losing this place money! I've spent thousands here and your phone was more important than a simple sale. If Matt was here I'd be having a word with him. I thanked the kid and walked out. Pissed me off.
